Thirsy

Omg I am so thirsty after surgery. Has anyone else experienced this. I have drank gallons of water. I feel like I have been in the desert for weeks. Maybe the anaesthesia or meds but I am shocked how dry my mouth gets. Pain I can handle but the thirst is driving me CRAZY lol.

Yes, yes, yes! I remember my mouth so dry I couldn't even speak. Begging for water, ice chips, anything! - which they wouldn't give me until they were sure my nausea was under control. (First time I'd ever had nausea following anesthesia). Finally let me drink, and not very long thereafter I was really glad I was able to get out of bed & walker to the toilet.

Even worse was dry eyes. Felt like I had not just sand, but rocks under my eyelids. Painful and scary. They gave me eye drops for it, but it was almost 24 hours before my eyes felt completely normal again.

I guess the dryness a pretty routine part of the whole op experience. (My THR was Oct 17) You'll be fine on that point real soon. Hang in there (& be persistent asking/demanding water or ice)

Hope you have a trouble- free recovery.

I drank nonstop, jug after jug of water..... It was also very hot in the hospital, middle of July. Good luck!

No I had none of that. But I sure went pee a lot for a couple of days after I got home. I even peed my pants a couple of times (not completely) right before I sat on the  toilet!!

Er - kind of forgot about that aspect.

Call me Cleopatra (Queen of denial) . 😉

Yep. No problem until the Catheter is removed in a day or two

I never had a catheter for either of my THRs. Even asked doc as I thot they prob took it out after surgery.

Yes! It lasted for over a week. It got better once I got off the narcotics. Plus, after THR it is a real nuisance to have to try and get up to pee so you are stuck trying to decide to drink and pee constantly or not drink and not get up so often! I hope it gets better for you-fast!

Hi Earthmother;    I just wanted to say my THR was also October 17th in

 Palm Springs   Ca.  at 8:00.

I have had a horrific time.  Horrible Swelling.  Now it is so much better.   Went to the Gym today   P.T.

Rode the bike and all their crazy exercises.  Drive the car yesterday and  I am ready to get rid of my cane.

I am a late bloomer, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. . I think they sprained my ankle in the

surgery.  A Lots of problems with it and I am finally getting a xray ,  My pain isn't too bad.  I take a 1/2 a pain pill before PT.   I have had 3 weeks of PT and they are giving me another 3 weeks as I am behnd

in my recovery.  UGH.  But life is good and every day is better.

I am still thirsty but it's getting better. I am glad its not just my freakiness lol. I have gotten up since surgery and peed and oh what a relief it is.

Stacy,

I am interested in you comment about your ankle, as I haven’t seen this  on here.  I am 10 1/2 weeks list op, and I have a lot of ankle pain. My PT says probably bruising around ankle. By the end of the day I want ice. The PA in my Dr!s office denies, but J think my PT is right. He says it will heal in time,

Hi Ellen. Yes I am going on 8 weeks Tuesday with ankles that need ice and still hurt.  I still elevate when I can and ice when I can and ware compression stalkings when I can.  I am getting X-rays Friday as I just want  to be sure my foot is ok.   I drove the car today and I am a real estate agent so I did work today but it hurts .   I had a lot of bruising after surgery and I wouldn't be surprised if my foot wasn't sprained or something during that brutal operation?   My ortho dr really doesn't seem to listen to me when I bring it up so I went to my gp and am now going to a foot dr.  It seems to get better with time though.   I would Just like to see the swelling gone.   Good luck to you too.
