Had my anterior surgery a year ago. I am having pain on the side of my hip. I am told it is muscular. Saw my surgeon at 9 months. just need to do more stretching. Hasn't helped. Went to PT. New stretches - getting worse. I am a very active person. It's starting to interfere with my golf game.
Thanks, Jack
Jack, I've linked an article from Patient that may be helpful to you. As you read it, do the symptoms sound like what you are having?

Did your surgeon do an x-ray when you saw him at 9 months? That's really the only way to eliminate the possibility that the pain has to do with bones and/or implants.
I had pain and disability following my THR and it turned out to be torn gluteal tendons. There are so many soft tissues in our hips and thighs that can get injured and cause problems.
Hi Annie, Thanks for your reply. No he didn't do an X-ray at 9 mo's. I thought he would. He just said it's my abductor muscles. I will check that article you sent out.
Read the article. Maybe. That is the area. My pain is worse when I have been inactive. Sitting or laying down and then walking. I will limp for say 10 steps and then it gets better.
I had both hips within the last 7 months anterior approach & was doing great until I developed cellulitis on lower legs from new electric razor I bought. I now have swelling in upper hip areas & slight pain in my left side. I have been on antibiotics for 7 days which hasn't helped swelling. Seeing surgeon next week as may need to do blood work for infection.😕
Hi Annie, it's Jack again. Yes read more about that trochanteric bursitis and that does sound like what I have. I emailed my doctor to see what she says.
THANKS!
Sure thing, Jack. I've had THR on one hip, but have GTPS in both hips. It's fairly common in oldsters, like me and my sister, who has it in one leg (no THR for her). All we want to be able to do is walk, and we can. If it is interfering with your activities, then it's good to know what you are dealing with.
I still think an x-ray is in order for you, just to rule out anything wrong with the bone or implant. X-rays aren't that expensive, so why not?
Please be a bit more specific describing your pain.
Where does the pain start, where does the pain end?
Is is more or less constant, if not what activities bring on the pain?
How long does the pain last?
