Well I've eventually had my THR last Thursday and got out of hospital yesterday. Everything went brill although they said they had a few problems during the op re: bleeding and the old hip being in a worse condition than they anticipated. I feel very battered and bruised and my operated leg looks like an oak tree but I'm ok and still smiling. My consultant has said in the past that he can't help all my OA problems - as in my spine etc.- but he will replace anything I need when it arises and no way will I be terrified anymore. So anyone about to have theres - it is scary but believe me you can cope with it - believe me if I can anyone can!!! xx
Pleased to hear that all went well, now take care and don't rush things. It takes time for your body to heal properly. Good luck
Nice to hear that you are recovering well, take it easy and you will be up and about in no time.
X
Good for you and glad it's all gone well. My tree trunk leg has finally subsided after three and a half weeks and looks almost normal (hip still a bit swollen) and I'm well on the way to getting on with life again. I've always said the shadows are worse than the objects when it comes to having something like this done and when it's all over you realise that it's just something else you've achieved in life. Hope it all goes as well for you as it has so far for me but take it steady!
Hi im so glad its all over and everything is going well. Can i ask if you were sedated or wide awake during the operation. Im just awaiting a date for my op and im really in a turmoil as to what to ask for. Once again tho im glad your through the worst and now at home. Hope all goes well for the future xx
I'm taking it easy and doing exactly as they tell me x I've seen so many posts on here where people have done too much too soon but that's not me x
thankyou I'm going to take it easy and do as they say because I think you can push your body too much sometimes x
I had a spinal block and a heavy sedation so I was sound asleep and would recommend it. When I came around I felt I'd had a good sleep and didn't feel sick or 'hangover' headed. By the time the spinal wore off they were already giving me pain relief so it wasn't too bad.
Go with whatever your anaesthetist recommends. They're the experts and do this day in, day out. The surgeons will have a preference too as to what state they want you in depending on.how they perform their THRs. A lot of places now do spinals and light GA or heavy sedation as you're not nearly so knocked off as you would be with a full GA. Having said that, even the GAs are much lighter than they were and leave your system much faster than the ones I had anything to do with when nursing 40 years ago! Don't worry about the anaesthetic whatever you have as you'll be in expert hands. Good luck.
Keep smilling keep positive and excercise when you can good luck

Well done, bet you're glad it is all over! Take it easy, be prepared for the odd set-back (but nothing you can't cope with) when you are getting better - it is amazing how your body lets you know when you have overdone it, udisn't it? Lots of rest, gentle exercise, and a positive attitude (you have 100% on the last one!)
Jeannie
Thankyou Jean x I believe in 'baby steps' and have learnt by reading discussions on here that's it's not a good idea to do too much too soon x
Good to hear.. There are many healing adjustment ahead... We'll meet for lunch @ UR fav club & dance with friends until the cows come home.
remember that's UR goal.. LOL!
Same here.. It's has a better outcome and less chances for urinary track infection due to no need for cath . The bladder is awake and cooperates well.
