Evening AlohaGirl! Yes I too have congenital hip dysplasia. When I was a baby was in a body cast with a, I don't know like a pole that kept my legs apart. Then after 6 mons was still in cast but from hip to feet. At 12 yrs old they performed knee surgery and inserted 24 staples 6 on top 6 on bottom on both sides of my knee to stop the growth so my right leg could catch up. I was good for many years but like you, unaware of the damage that was going on in my right hip. Had a limp because I was shorter but as time went on the limp got worse. Had been using a cane & shoe lift for the past 10 months but pain & difficulty getting around prompted me to get hip replacement. I am 3 1/2 weeks out but had a setback, dislocated my hip and going back in tomorrow to see if surgeon can put back without having to cut me open again. It's normal to be scared! I was too and still am, but for most part hip surgeries are common and ppl are happy they got them done!! This is a great forum here. Many sharing their experiences and offer advice. Hope that all goes well for you and get all the info you can to ease your mind. You'll be ok. Prayers & hugs to you. 🙏🏽🤗
Hi AlohaGirl
My diagnosis was, much to my surprise, OA, so I can't comment on your diagnosis. However, I can comment on the op itself and can only say that from my experience it was the best thing I've ever done.
It is completely normal to be scared. My first post to this forum was that I was so terrified I wanted to delay having the op and that was despite being in constant pain. Just the thought of the op made me feel sick.
My lastest post to this forum (yesterday) was to say that I've just had my 6-week review (at 8 weeks) and that I'm now walking without a stick and without a limp and not in any pain.
I rest my case.
Good luck with the op and remember, be patient with yourself, don't expect too much of yourself in the early days.
Hi Alohgirl,
No CHD but OA -
I had a look at your profile and read that you are leaving your family behind to have surgery done in USA --- that must be so tough - On the other hand you will be staying with your parents and that will be great -
Of course you are scared - there is a lot on your plate right now in addition to the surgery ...
when is your surgery scheduled?
come back here anytime okay - you are not alone in this anymore - we are here to support you and understand what you are going through re; hip replacement surgery - there are many mothers with young children members her as well -
big warm hug
renee
I had CHD diognosed at 6 weeks. Put in traction. At 1 i had my first surgery. Diognosed with AVN at 7 years old. Iv had a total of 13 surgeries on my hips and knees to sort the issue. My hips were a mess.
Im 16 weeks post op. My surgery was very complex. Took 7 hours so my recovery is going very slowly.
Is this your first surgery?
Is it the surgery you are worried about or the recovery. Being truthful, the recovery is the hardest bit. Dont rush it and listen to your body. You'll do fabulous. 😘
Yes. I had bi lateral undiagnosed hip dysplaysia. Also have hyper mobile joints. Ended up with oa as I'm now 50. Have had 1 hip done. 1 to go at a later date.
Very glad to have the surgery. I still have problems at 3 months out but they are different and I'm sure with excersizes and patience will improve.
Good luck. You'll be great.
Thank you for your kind words. I'm amazed at what you endured even before the replacement. I how things bet better for you, too!
