I am Day 9 from RTHR and I think the hip healing is going well. However I have had an appalling migraine for 3 days now. I have suffered migraines all my life and know that I can usually manage them with naratriptan. No joy this time though. I think it is the use of painkillers (just paracetamol and ibuprofen) that has triggered this attack so I am not taking anything at the moment although I still have to take Rivaroxaban to avoid clots. I contacted NHS Choices and althought the doctor was sympathetic there isn't anything else I can do (including a warm bath and a comfortable sleep!). I have no appetite but I am forcing myself to do the hip exercises. If I could just get rid of this head pain I thinkI would feel great. Has anyone else been through this?
Hi Carole as you have said that Migraine has been a constant problem, It could be that you are on yur back with a poor neck rest, I used to prop myself up as High as I could on a Vee Pillow, and three others to make a wedge then sink down a little, try to get sleep that way, or ask the GP for proper Maigrain Painkillers, not over the counter ones.
hope you are feeling better soon.
Keep in touch. Ian.
Dear Carole, I feel so sorry for you. I have also suffered from migraine all my life and I know that continued use of Paracetamol and ibroprofen triggers mine, as well as eating certain foods. You may fine that Looking up 'leaky gut syndrome' when you r feeling better is helpful. Now your priority is to get rid of the migraine so that you can concentrate on your exercises and getting better. By controlling what I eat and avoiding medication I have managed to reduce my migraines. On the advice of a pharmacist, when I get one I take 3 soluable aspirin and try to sleep in a dark room with a cold cloth over my eyes. I think stress also doesn't help so try to stay calm and relax. Eat little and often, eating very simple food, perhaps just vegetables, chicken and fish. I avoid milk products, sugar and wheat, but this may not necessarily work for you.
When your wound has healed try doing your exercises at the pool. It's much easier and very effective.
very best wishes, Betty
Dear Ian and Betty. Thank you so much for your support - it is realy appreciated. I am feeling very low at the moment as the migraine continues and i am now being sick. I have still done my standing exercises today though so proud of myself. I will try and follow all your guidance. Thanks again
Is there a migraine group on here?
Good morning Carole,
How are you feeling ? I am so sorry about your migraine ... I too have been a long time migraine person and know how it feels -
eventually acupuncture took care of it and I only get it occasionaly -
however ..... a couple of weeks ago my pain meds were changed to Ibuproven and I had migraine for 2 days - meds were changed back and now just a headache now and then ...
I wish I could help you ... take nice slow breaths and relax your muscles: on top of your head, temples, jaw, neck, throat, shoulder, all the way down - take your time and be oh so gentle with yourself -
warm hug
renee
Good morning Renee
Yesterday was a very strange day as the migraine became even worse and the emergency doctor had to come out. Anyway long story short I am feeling much better today: being sick and codeine from the doctor worked - told , like you to keep well away from ibuprofen.
Anyway. my poor husband had been sent out to get something to eat by me,and of course that was when the doctor arrived. In a rush I moved my two little dogs out of the way and went to let the doctor in. I forgot my crutches and my hip felt great especially as it is only Day 10.
I think the doctor was quite stunned by my mobility. Anyway now the migraine has gone I feel really thrilled with my hip operation and I am so glad I had it.
Hope you are doing ok Renee. Your support so appreciated.x
Dear Carole, so glad that your migraine is finally better and your hip is doing so well. Expect your recovery to be a bit cyclic and if painful days come back don't worry it just signals that another bit of you is going through healing phase. It could be ache in your knee, low back, groin etc.
I have avoided pain killers since day 10 cos I work so hard to avoid getting into a migraine, which I know happens after most painkillers. I control my pain around my hip with rest, cold compress and gentle exercise. Be careful will lifting heavy things and walking long distances up hill. I am 10 months since surgery and able to do nearly everything now without any ill effects.
best wishes
