Had op on April 18th. Had problems with nerve block and still don't have 100% of feeling back.
Been to see consultant tonight as was called back early due to the early probs with nerve block.
Since last Friday night and when I lie down I have the most awful pain in my ankle and shin it lasts for a very long time . When I try to get out of bed while in pain it takes a while for feeling to come back in foot so I can weight bear. Consultant says he is baffled as to why for the past 4 nights this should happen. Taking pain relief with no effect for this pain.
Above my knee is swollen sometimes but have had no grief from op site or joint.
Has anyone had these nightly pains or when the lie down for a rest during the day . I am so tired and not sure what I can do to help myself.
Consultamt says if still the same in a week to go back. But the thought of no sleep for another week not sure how I will cope.

Hi Gaynor I had terrible pains in my good leg after the op for about 2 weeks but only when I laid down. I took an ice pack to bed and rubbed up and down it which helped a bit to enable me to get to sleep and I slept a lot sat up in bed with pillows in armchair around me. The physio said it could have been a nerve that was pinched when they put the spinal block in. It went as quickly as it came, after about 2 weeks I think maybe 3 but certainly not an ongoing problem. Agony when I had it and the surgeon just shook his head and said he didn't know what it could be.
Dreadful to suffer, but it is early days to know if you have nerve damage as pain levels can be excruciating for weeks and weeks (months and months in my case).. Let us hope it will resolve soon, but the loss of feeling in the foot must be a warning. A week is an eternity without sleep and in pain. Please let us know. Difficult to comment on people's different pain tolerance levels and painkiller brands, efficacity etc. What are you taking, and how much?
I was on cocodamol, brufen and oramorph.
but after seeing physio today he thinks it's nerve damage, so told me to go to GP and get gabopentin which is pain relief for nerves after surgery etc. so managed to get an appointment 2 hours later. How lucky was I. I went and asked and there were no appointments so they said ring at 8 in the morning and you will get one so I said yes but I won't have a lift tomorrow but I have one now. Showing her my crutches.. So they fitted me in.
So let's see what the next few days bring.......some much needed sleep I hope

I told my physio about your comment this morning after he had said about nerve damage to me. Found out earlier Dr has written up wrong doseage so don't think it will be a night of sleep tonight.

Oh no, are you getting another prescription with the right dosage today ? They can do that over the phone and you collect it.
I have rung the surgery this morning and the Dr is phoning me after morning surgery .. Thank you
