How long after my operation should I keep my compression tights on. It’s been 5 weeks now since my op and I can’t wait to get rid of them

Have you already had your two week check up?  Are you taking baby aspirin everyday?  I have them on as well.  Today is day 5 since surgery Monday.  I forecast at least 1 month wearing them.  What is your age?  Health status?  Are you diabetic?  All these factors will determine whether or not you need to keep them on.  If you are a little bigger, diabetic, or a smoker, bad circulation, prone to clotting, then you will have those stockings on until you are cleared by your doc.  Hope that was helpful.  I'm 46 and I got in great shape before my replacement, I worked intensely on my cardiovascular health, I also lost 22 pounds before the big day.  I'm non weight bearing for 6 weeks because of an old surgery that compromised the structure of the bone.

Thanks for that info. I am diabetic so I will wait till I see my consultant in 2 weeks.

Best to check with your Doctor. Believe I only had them on for 3 days. Was on Coumadin

I had mine on for 6 weeks each time.

Uncomfortable but they are there to stop you getting a potentially lethal DVT

Hi 

I am only 51, fit and healthy but my consultant insisted that I kept them   On for 6 weeks. I was also doing the daily injection. Boy it was hot but I did it. Joyously cut them off last week and had a leg wax!

Congratulations for keeping them on in this heat we’ve been having! I had mine on for around 4 weeks, then as I got more active I just wore them at night time.  There is a sense of freedom when you remove them

I gave mine up once I was out of bed and moving around normally in the house, even though I had to sit down in my easy chair on a regular basis because I just wasn't strong enough, but even found I could not sit for a long time, just too uncomfortable, about 10 days post surgery, same timing as going out of the house, if but very slowly, and giving up really strong painkillers.

Every day went for a slow walk at the local hardware warehouse, nice big spacious, flat concrete walking area, and plants in the garden center to have a look at, which I enjoy.

Local Dr told me as long as I was moving around and using operated leg muscles to do that moving they could be got rid of.
