its been a month sense my hip replacement and the calf of my leg hurt. my doctor checked it out i had no blood clots did anyone else have this problem and if so what did you do?
Hello , I had my THR a month ago . I have pain in my calf and thigh , it is more of an ache a bit like a tooth ache type of pain. It is not constant ,I find massaging it for a while helps.. From what I have been reading it is quite a normal occurrence so I wouldn’t worry. ![]()
I’m 8 weeks post op and I still get calf pain at times. Heat work wonders. When lying down put a heating pad under that leg.
Francis there have been numerous posts on this issue and you are not alone . When we have had the op and we are walking the muscles are not all working the same as they were before. Your gait will be slightly different and muscles in different locations on the legs will be taking up the strain. Keep up the exercises and walking and it will go away. I had it in one calf for around a week also and then dissipated but I was returning to a better walking rhythm.
Frances, I am now 7 weeks post-op and had the same thing, just a bit earlier. it took a good couple of weeks for my bruising to come out on my calf. I also suffered a bit of cramp in my calf (someone else on here recommended I tried taking magnesium and that helped). My pain lasted a few weeks on and off but none now. All the best.
Hi Frances,
I’m 11 weeks post op and for a good few weeks after the op I had a lot of pain in my leg mainly at the bottom of the thigh down to the knee, it was the worst pain of the whole ordeal. Also had pain in calf and swelling. I am sure it is all normal, you have suffered a traumatic experience and take it from me it gets better every week, just keep moving around, doing the stretches and get a walk per day if you can manage at this stage.
take care !
