KEY WORDS HERE, REST!!!!!!! AND STICK TO THIS SITE IM POST PP THREE MOS NOW AND JUST STARTED FEELING BETTER LAST WEEK.DONT KNOW WHST I WOULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT THIS SITE.
Expect to be uncomfortable and sore. In the first week spend as much time as you can laying down. Like bathroom trips only then back to bed. If you have small children you'll need help. I'm 2 weeks post and still and laying down every chance I get. Sitting is painful and you may not be able to drive for a bit. thats the one part I didn't anticipate, especially if you have stitches in your perineum. This forum is a great resource. Good luck
Thank you for the advice I appreciate it
I think I had the same though wasn't expecting the amount of work I had done before I went into the op. I've also had a perineum rebuild done. I'm 8 days through now and feeling much better. You will be sore but they can manage the pain. Don't be stoic take the drugs and try different combos if things don't work at first. I couldn't bear the morphine - throwing up - and so ended up with codeine, IV paracetamol and diclofenac, which worked really well. And when you get home keep it up every few hours to stay on top of any pain.
The pain was not excruciating more an uncomfortable sensation. It massively gets better every day. There is a feeling of swelling and soreness now. Bit like after a baby! Particularly if you had any stitches it feels similar.
The main worry is not to get constipation. Make sure hospital give you lactulose and laxative. It just makes it all easier. And make sure before your op you are well hydrated and eating a good diet with fruit and veg to help you along after.
Good luck and try not to worry. It is manageable. Just make sure you do lots of lying down and rest
Best
