I can walk around the house without crutches or walking stick, when I go out I still use a stick so people give me more room...I don't feel any pain and my limp has gone.
At night I cannot sleep on the operated side: the cut is still hurting, I have to use a pillow between my legs and turn on the unoperated side, but I have to be very careful to find just the right angle...I can sleep a little on my back..Basically I spend the night tossing and turning like mad!
In the afternoon I have to go back to bed for al least one hour, I am exhausted!
The cut is still quite painful in the middle...I still have four little strip of plaster.
This is me ...three weeks and two days after the hip hop!
I am 6 weeks I can walk round the house with no sticks but if I am out shopping I have still use the crutches I am also still on the occasional pain killers I can sleep on the UN operated side, last night I went to bed at 11pm had a couple of pain killers woke at 2am for about 10 mins went off to sleep till 7am, I have a friend who walks our dog she is a greyhound and so good will walk at your speed as of today I am going to do the morning walks and friend will still do the evening one as they take her for a long walk, if I do too much my other hip will play up and the operated one will also ache to let me know, I have got a further 4 weeks off work I will find out Friday from the surgeon of what I can and can't do also my own Dr has said push for the other hip to be done as according to the surgeon the hips were bad as each other
Hi Ella sounds like you will be fine, are you just having one done or the two, the sleeping sounds like me, I take quite a while to settle down too, but I take the painkillers just before bed, 2X50mg Tramadols, and read a little then get usually 4hrs wake up very thirsty, so have a pint of squash next to me, and then drift off for another 2hrs, I also sleep in the afternoon for 2hrs maybe 3hrs, my right leg, the weaker one as I am left sided, has come back, and has some real form now, the muscles are just like they were 10yrs ago, and today is the day I see the surgeon about the left one, if they can do it so soon just 6,or7, weeks after the first one, I really cant see myself getting back to work on my left as the hip is killing now, so I am crossing fingers for that, yes, keep that stick for getting out and about as it does provide a deal of care and attention from most people, nice to hear that you are doing so well, congratulations.
I don't have any problem with the othe hip, thank God!
May be I should take some paracetamol in the evening,I'll try.
I agree you should do the other hip as soon as possible, and go back to work when you have fully recovered. Fortunately I am off work until September...But I would like to go back part-time to start with.
I'm still sleeping on my back at 8 weeks with just a couple of hours on my unoperated side as my leg, knees and hip get achy on my side. I used to have an afternoon nap in the early weeks to.
Sounds like you are doing really well walking without sticks so early around the house. Just be careful you don't overdo it!
I am 10 weeks post op today and I still can't sleep very well and I can't sleep on my side. I am too scared too and I get worse pains in my collapsed unoperated hip if I even try. From what I have read I don't think you should be turning on your operated side yet any way. I think the recomended time for that is 6 weeks post op.
Hi ella .... you are doing really good !!! walking your dog and also resting in the afternoon ...no pain or limp !!! I am 14 weeks post op, sleep on operated side since week 6 and it feels as if I am laying on something - however not painful or bothersome.. still tossing and turning before falling a sleep -
That's reall good progress with the walking. The rest is just time and plenty of rest. Most of the body resources are being channelled to heal your poor leg. Have you watched your type of operation on line?. I watched 3 and it had the effect of making me realise how much 💚the surrounding area needed to repair and renew itself. More like cooking a stew in the oven, than blasting it in the microwave!. I am enjoying my end result now, back on the saddle🏇
Hi Ella neather was I. It is just posts on here and a lot of research that is helping me through this. I ask questions. Some are answered some are not. So I am left to find out things sometimes myself. Not really fair on those of us who have had to go through something this major. But I can understand that surgeons / nurses don't really have time to talk for long also.
Yes Olive, I have watched the op on you tube...I wonder if the surgeon can still eat meat...:-) Pretty impressive really, but we need to heal properly.
I still can't sleep on my operated side I was advised by the hospital to sleep on my back for 6 weeks, but for 3 weeks you are doing really well, I still use a crutch or stick, if you have physio ask them about the laying on sides also if you ring your surgeons Secretary she will ask questions on your behalf and get answers
