Thrombosed external hemorrhoid removed, having baby in 4 days

im currently pregnant for the second time and I got my first hemorrhoid about 6 months ago and they came and went four or five times. Nothing too uncomfortable and went away after tucks and prep H. This past Monday two ended up thrombosing causing excruciating pain. I couldn’t sit stand or walk. So I went to the colorectal dr on Thursday and they cut the hemorrhoid open and removed the clots. So now I have an open wound on my butt. This has been the worst experience of my life with pain and I’m dreading having my baby on Tuesday (Day 5 post op). I’ve been reading horror stories about hemorrhoidectomy but I’m wondering if that’s what I had or is that something different? The first day my pain was a 10 for hours after the lidocaine wore off. Now on Day 2 its a constant 6. Apparently your nether region is highly vascular during pregnancy so the pain was unbearable. So if anyone can shed some light, my questions are

  1. Have you had a baby vaginally shortly after having a hemorrhoid excised?
  2. And is a hemorrhoid excision the same as a hemorhhoidectomy?

I’m so sorry you went through that, I also had my hemorrhoids thrombose during my 3rd trimester of pregnancy and it was a nightmare!! I had my baby a month after the ordeal so I had much more time to heal, but honestly don’t think you’ll notice it too much/if at all during labor since you’ll definitely be preoccupied with birthing your baby

I could be wrong but I think the term “excised” can basically apply to anything that is being cut or sliced. So you had your hemorrhoid excised by having it cut open while mine was excised by having it completely sliced off my body.

“-ectomy” is the term for surgical removal of something, so if your hemorrhoid was excised (Cut open) but left on your body I don’t think it’s considered a hemorrhoidectomy. My surgeon used the term “lanced” when she cut and removed the blood clots when my hemorrhoid was thrombosed and “excised” when she removed the hemorrhoid entirely, so I think it just depends how people are using the word.

Hope that helps, and good luck with your baby! How exciting!!

I’ve just had a Hemorrhoidectomy done. it means when they are completely gone externally and internally. recovery has been very rough and I’m only day 8 into it!
did your labour go okay? congrats.
