thrush or herpes?

I've had an ongoing issue now for the last 4 months and have been to my gp many times and got no answer.

I have only one symptom which is a red sore vagina opening. This has gotten no worse or no better. The only time it really causes me a problem is when I have sex, however its more uncomfortable than painful.

My doctor initially treated me for thrush, this had no effect so I was prescribed a longer course And again this had no effect.

My gp then decided to treat me for bacterial vaginosis and again did not work. After going back again in was put on a longer course of treatment for thrush. I saw no improvement.

My gp has done blood tests to rule out diabetes and taken me off the contraceptive pill to see if this had any effect.

After going back today they have said they want to more swab tests to rule out viral infections & STI's such as herpes.

I'm now in a panic after looking at herpes symptoms as I have red soreness could be a mild symptom of herpes, however as my symptom has been there for a few months could this be the case?

I'm at the end of my tether and just want some answers!

thanks

It's a possibility. Recommend a blood test for herpes, high rate of false negatives w swabs, unless they test for DNA, vs a viral culture.

Hi, as a guess i would say that you havent got herpes at all... ? did you find when you have sexual intercourse that you felt sore after the event not during?  I'll start with that question and go from there...

I don't  either but it has just put doubt in my mind!! I find it sore both during and after and also find tampons irritate me. I went to my GUM clinic yesterday and the nurse also said she didn't believe it to be herpes which as eased my mind a little. Howver if it is thrush why isn't it responding to any treatment?

Hi Lucy, do you find that you are also sensitive around the vagina too? Did something happen to trigger off the soreness? Soap irritate ? Any nerve like pain, stabbing, burning ?

Why in gods name have they not just taken your blood or did a swab? Did they look inside you?

Did you notice by chance on the tampons, any discoloration outside the normal coloring from the blood? Like circular spots?
