My problem is that I have sweating bouts which are upsetting because they are severe. I feel as though I am on fire with a dry heat. Have had them ever since I was diagnosed with Thyroid problem and took Levothyroxin. The doctor does not seem to think that this is a problem.!!! :?
Hello Sufferer,
Reading your post brought back memories to me. I too had severe \"hot\" episodes when I was first diagnosed and took thyroxine, but mine were mainly at night. I was well past the menopause so that was ruled out. They were so uncomfortable and ruined my sleep. Had some during the daytime but was able to control them more by rushing out into the garden.
These hot and sweaty episodes took quite a while to go - I would say about 18 months, getting less and less. The day episodes have completely vanished (fingers crossed) though, occasionally, I might get the night sweat.
Of course, the other point might be that the thyroxine is giving you a nasty side effect. When I first started taking thyroxine, I use to get a very fast and throbbing pulse rate, especially when I had just eaten a meal - really frightened me. The doctor, likewise, said nothing to worry about. To be honest, this has now vanished but took at least a year to disappear. Hope my post helps you in some way. Larks.
Thank you for your reply to me. I feel better having found this site because selfishly I felt I was the only one with my problem. I have been trying to really help myself by taking a vitamin and mineral supplement Boots a-z and also Coenzyme Q10. The last one seems to have given me some energy and also has cured my swollen tummy. I also try to eat healthy most of the time and keep my weight down and also go for a walk daily for at least 20 mins even when I don't want to. I have actually collapsed and blacked out several times and have found myself in hospital each time feeling that I could not move and was terrified. It wears off eventually but its not nice and literally panics my husband. This usually happen when I had had a larger meal than usual mostly if we were in a restaurant. I now try to eat small meals often and as soon as I feel my pulse rise I get up and walk around. I am most grateful to you for replying because it has helped me get going and help myself. My DR is lovely but hasn't a clue about my problem. Talks to me about levels and no's and says see you in 6 months for another test to see how I am doing. Bye the way I think you are right about the intolerance to the Levothyroxine. Hopefully I will be better after a while as you said.!!!!!!! Anyway thanks again.
I also have HypoThyroidism and have had a complete hysterectomy isince I was 28 and I'm on estrogen and have been ever since my surgery, I also have the " Make believe disease Fibromyalgia", that everyone seem to laugh about and pretend it's not real. But if they had to live one day in my body waking up in the middle of the night to roll from hip to hip because that's as long as I can stand pressure on them and if they felt like they had the aches, headaches, and soreness from the flu everyday of they're life maybe it wouldn't be so funny and I'm only 47 and I have solely been taking care of my Mama who has severe Alzeheimers you would know I don't get much rest and pain meds are laughable for Fibro patients I'm on Tramadol it's a high profile name for extra-strength Tylenol, in other words M&M's! That doesn't help. But my doc recently put me on Effexor (You know the movie) From Side Effects. Anyway I didn't kill anyone but hated everybody and had no sympathy none what so ever. I went literally almost 1year without crying and I'm a cryer seriously at anything , movie, commercial, it didn't matter then to have no emotion was like dying slowly, so I slowly weaned myself with God's help and I asked him for my emotions back and one day the flood gates open and I cried all day and have the time I didn't know why but afterwards it felt so good. But it mad me gain weight like 15-25 lbs and I just wonder from you guys if your Thyroid pills ever made you gain weight?Because the extra weight is worse for my Fibro. I was at 106 and now I'm at 128lbs. And trying to exercise it off. I'm also Vegan and allergic to soy and gluten which is not easy. Any suggestion besides telling me I'm a walking mess! Lol
