Thyroid problem

Hello Guys

My name is Kevin. I have genetic thyroid problem from my parents. However, it's under control because i'm taking my medications.

I'm taking Euthyrox 50 daily. Doctor asked me to take this tablet daily n empty stomach.. recently only i got to know from another doctor that i shouldn't be taking and dairy products / milk before or after 2 hours from taking this tablet..

1) Can anyone explain why is that? I'm so used to having coffee with milk when i get up and also morning i used to have cereal with milk so now this is affecting my breakfast timing/routine..

2) I understand i have to take this tablet lifelong. Really no other way to control this situation without taking any medication?

Thank you in advance.

Kevin.

Hi kevin123, you will get more replies by posting this question on the hypothyroid forum:

https://patient.info/forums/discuss/browse/hypothyroidism-1050

You seem to be hypothyroid since you have to take Thyroxine supplements.

1) It is recommended to take Thyroxine on an empty stomach to ensure a constant and predictable absorption rate. In other words, when it is taken with other food less of the Thyroxine will end up in your bloodstream.

Even though it is recommended to take Thyroxine in the morning some people prefer to take it in the evening.

Have a look at this post: https://patient.info/forums/discuss/taking-levothyroxine-at-night-improved-my-life--226315

2) Patients with hypothyroidism need to take Thyroxine daily just like patients with Type 1 Diabetes need their daily dose of insulin. You could ask your endocrinologist what your actual diagnosis is. Then post it with your questions to get replies from patients with that particular thyroid disorder.

thank you very much. i really appreciate your detailed explanation.
