Thyroid readings

I have just had the results of my thyroid and my reading for Tsh is 0.12 & T4 is 0.18. My doctor tells me it's normal,  I am on 100mg of levothyroxine.  Can anyone tell me if these readings are normal?

I am sorry I can not. My doctor does not give me a break down only tells me whether I am in the normal range. Unfortunately I feel awfull and I am so worn out fighting this battle. If you do not feel good ask for more test or a referral to a specialist.

My doctor has referred me out to a specialist, she is reviewing my file to let me know if she will see me or not. That has been over a week ago now and no word ...

Hi, I don't know if that is normal or not either but the range that I have on my doctor print out of tsh is 0.450-4.500. and t4 range is 0.82-1.77. To me yours sounds kind of low but I dont know I just go by these ranges. My test of tsh was 1.31 and t4 was 1.50. I am on 50mg of levothyroxine. Hope that helps.

Thank you Donna, it does help because I feel it is too low also.  I have learnt more from the replies than my own doctor.  Thank goodness for these web sites.

Glad I could help, I know sometimes doctors do not give you all the answers, that is why I do my research and keep all my lab printouts and also like you said Thank God for these web sites.

Hello Fay,

Obviously you don't FEEL normal; you wouldn't be asking the question if you did. You can do all the bloodwork in the world, but you also need to do what is called a clinical exam, where the doctor examines you and asks questions that give clues about your health. A simple internet search shows that normal range for TSH is anywhere from 0.5-4.5. But the TSH ranges are in question because of various factors, including thyroxin resistance. My TSH for instance is usually less than 0.1 when my meds are right. My T4 and T3 need to be at the high end of normal or slightly above for me to feel normal. There are many factors in treating thyroid disease, and if not treated properly, the whole system basically goes down and you don't know where to start. My experience has been that whenever I feel out of sorts and can't think straight, my meds are too low or the wrong one.

I know I didn't answer your questions directly, but it isn't as simple as being in range. Hope that helps.

Hello Catherine, thank you for your reply.  No I definitely don't feel right, the hot flashes are not good and I get very breathless.  I an seeing a specialist on Wednesday so hopefully I will get somewhere.

Yes your reply is very helpful and appreciated.

Thyroid flashes. Yes. Hot on the back of the neck, right? For temporary releif, ice the back of the neck to get the inflamation down, that will allow the thyroid to work better, and stop it from turning on and off irregularly. True hotflashes cause your cheeks and forehead to heat up and flush, but thyroid flashes don't, so thats how you can tell the difference. The only way the thyroid flashes finally stopped for me was to increase my meds. I also had to switch from the Levo to the natural because the Levo didn't work for me at any dose.

Yes I think I will try switching as well.  My daughter has the a low thyroid reading as well & she is starting on the natural today.

Hi Fay- The Natural should help once you get the dose up. Good luck to you!
