Thyroid underactive

I have an underactive thyroid this 20 years I do not take any med for it, I did for the first few months then I stop and have not taken any meds since. I've noticed that people on med were not fairing better than me. Shouldn't I fair worse, but I'm not. When I noticed this I decided to do some research been researching the thyroid over and under for about 18 years. Did you know that thyroid meds are based on a sheep's thyroid ? A sheep eats grass, humans don't. Big difference . Please do your research . Thyroid med have been around since the 1930's nothing has change in nearly a hundred years, no new research just med being diluted down or strengthened the results are always the same they stop working after a time. I'm sure some will swear med work for them. Are they so sure ? Or is it that their thyroid is not as weak as other peoples. Yip different peoples thyroid work faster or slower speeds. Two people with under active thyroid could have different working speeds. Taking the same meds might not work. Doctors also don't know what to meds to give to you that's why the meds have to be changed all the time uped in dose or down in dose. Either way they will eventually stop working . A whole host of physical illness arise from the thyroid heart , liver, lungs, kidneys , muscle pain and more. The immune system becomes weak. The doctor won't give you anything to get the immune working at a pace. Because their isn't anything for it . Then there are the parasites, pin , hook worms and other worms that multiply in the intestines because the immune system is weakened and can't fight them. Considering all the damage the incompetent thyroid causes to health wouldn't you think over the last 90 years research would have been done until a cure would have found ? Well NO !!! It hasn't. So do your own research it's your health it's up to you to look after it. And that means research. Also research foods that help relieve depression. God bless all thyroid sufferers'. And may a good caring scientist one find a cure.

What a load of biased misinformation. Many people, myself included have benefitted gteatly from stynthetic hormone, which, by the way is NOT made from sheep thyroid. Get your facts right, at least!

I agree with Dave.  I feel great on levothyoxine  andmyself and many other people do too.   Sure, it may not work for everyone, but for most, it does.  There are only a handful of people, in my opinion that may not feel great on it.  These are the people that may come to forums like this to seek help.  The other 95%, no one ever even hears from.  Why?  Because they feel good and normal on synthetic thyroid medication and do not come these forums looking for answers.  Also.. I find that most people who do come to this group are just starting out on medication, so they might not feel their best yet because there are side effects in the begging until the body can used to the medication, but it seems about right to me... that we never hear from 90% of those people again because after the initial side effects go away, they feel good.  Synthetic thyroid medication IS very well researched and has help so many people.  It is not fair to scare people into not even trying medication such as levothyroxine, when it does help so many.  Also.. why would we want the doctors to give us medication to boost our immune systems?  There are many natural solutions to that problem and medication that the doctor can give us, but boosting our immune systems would mean a greater attack on our thyroids and being most of us have Hashimoto's, that is not a good thing.  I read a research paper from NCIB and it mentioned that the handful of people that claim to not feel good on synthetic thyroid medication may be just from the though of being sick.  For some, just being told you have an illness, like hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's, can make you feel bad.  Also in that same research paper from NCIB....  there are people who feel tired all the time, or depressed, anxious, or even gaining weight and just automatically assume it's their thyroid.  Well.. most of the population, that do not have thyroid problems, feel like this, on a daily basis.   Anyway.. of course your entitled to your opinion, but please, just don't scare people into not taking their medication, in which can give them a normal life and perhaps save their lives.  Best wishes...

It's great that you no longer need your mediation but those of us who have had our thyroid glands removed or many other thyroid conditions have to permanently rely on medication.  Where did you find that it's based on sheep thyroid?  I've never read that and even comparing synthetic to porcine thyroid only the proportions of T4 and T3 are different but the chemical structures are the same.  I understand your frustration with thyroid mediation but since it works well for many people, perhaps it could be the interpretation of the tests the dosages are based on or the proportion of T4/T3 needed.  You could also react to the dyes or fillers.
