I just wondered if you had or know of any young people who have had a TIA? How likely is it? I'm probably worrying about nothing, but i have been to the doctors and it is being investigated. 4 days ago at work my vision went distorted, the left side of my vision went 'cracked' and flashing and this lasted for about twenty minutes. I didn't have a headache or no other symptoms. I closed my left eye thinking it was my left eye but i could still see it in my right eye, so i ruled out it being my eyes. I told the doctor 2 days later at an appointment and he said although unlikely at my age (22 yo female) he referred me to a TIA clinic, took some blood, tested my BP, eyes, reflexes, reflexes a little off apparently but nothing major. Also changed my contraception as the one i was on can increase your chance of blood clots....I was just wondering could this seriously have been a TIA? He suspects it's a silent migraine but not taking any chances so having a scan next week. It's just got me quite worried now!
One year ago I had a "minor stroke" while at work. I was twenty-five-years-old at the time. I am in the US but I really feel like all of the web-based resources on TIA come from the UK. The first hospital I went to (closest to work where I had the stroke) was totally crap and unprepared to help me. Luckily, I was released after four days and was taken to a large university research hospital where the doctors were much more educated, prepared, and experienced. Over the next six months I had every test you could think of done several times - MRI, MRA, CT, EKG, ECG, TEE, and all the other letters. Nothing came back conclusively. My diagnosis was shaky at best. I experienced atypical aphasia for a few months after my stroke and even now, a year later, when I get too tired my entire left side will get numb and tingly. I Despite all the tests (and ridiculous costs) my physicians sent me off with "take an aspirin each day" and nothing else. I don't really believe that the medical community has a strong enough understanding of strokes, "mini-strokes", and TIAs. I felt very much like my doctors were stumped. It is very frustrating.
Hi Stacy6. I had a TIA end of April 2014 and I'm only 49. My signs were dizziness, severe headache, blurry vision. I've ended up hospitalized twice now, each time for 4 days. All major tests were done and it was confirmed I had a TIA which affected my occipital lobe right side. Was caused due to a tear in my vertibrial artery of neck. I was placed on coumadin but the 2nd hospital visit I had recurring symptoms like the first time, confusion, dizziness, bluriness. I am searching for ANYONE who has had a stroke affect their occipital lobe causing a field cut on my left side vision. I am having troubles driving and trying to start a brand new job. My near and computer vision has been severly impaired. I want to have hope that I could still have healing even after my first 3 months. Can anyone talk to me about their experience? (by the way I do not smoke, am physically fit, exercise daily). My only issue is having high blood pressure genetically. Thank you!
Hi I had a TIA a month ago and I'm only 30 I'm now on warfarin for 6 months it's really scary as um a wife and mother of 4 I started with severe headache and it went on for 8 days before bring admitted to hospital as doctors were just fobbing me off I guess they thought I was too young I had headaches and by day 8 I was dropping over
I knew a girl who had a full stroke at 8 years old, so is not unknown to have a stroke or tia at any age, although more prominent in older people.
