Hi this is my first post and I have a question about the recent change in my prescription for Tibolone 2.5mg tablets. I had been taking Livial 2.5mg tablets for 6+ years (manufactured by Merck Sharp & Dohme Limited) and recently my Doctor prescribed a change to Glenmark Generics (Europe) Ltd. It may just be a coincidence but I have noticed in the past 2-3 months an increase in my menopausal symptoms e.g. itchy skin, aching joints, headaches, brittle hair, watery eyes, sleeplessness and wondered if there might be a difference due to the manufacturer. Has any other lady had their prescription changed recently? Have you been having an increase in symptoms? Thanks and look forward to any replies.
hi, just read about you being put on tibolone, can i ask how you are getting on now as my doctor is concidering putting me on this as the high dose hrt is giving me bad heads and dizzyness. Hope you are feeling well on this after having it fr two months. Woud appriciate your feed back.
Hi Linda, I too was prescribed Tibolone instead of my usual Livial which I have been on successfully for many years. Two weeks after starting the Glenmark medication, all of my menopausal symptoms returned with a vengeance ..... Flushes, night sweats, weeping for no reason, irritability & stomach cramps.
The Locum who had inadvertently changed my medication said that the drugs were exactly the same, but I think we can despute this, having suffered the return of our symptoms. They are the same dose of Tibolone but their effects are quite different.
I am going back on Livial today & will report in a couple of weeks.

Hi sorry to have not replied sooner... computer issues! I changed to Livial for 2 months and symptoms improved however new prescription from Doctor is again for Tibolone by Glenmark and I have noticed an increase in symptoms again e.g. itchy skin including scalp and sleeplessness. Let me know how you get on. Thanks
Hi Rosy how did you get on with changing to Livial? My Doctor prescribed Tibolone by Glenmark again and said there was no difference between the 2 manufacturers i.e. same drug etc but I am not convinced and would appreciate your feedback. Thanks Linda
Hi Linda, thank you for your reply. I returned to the Doctor and asked to be prescribed Livial and as I told you, I have now been on it for one month. I felt better almost immediately. All the menopausal symptoms went away after two weeks.
Unfortunately, my doctor, in requesting a repeat prescription has manifested itself in a new type of Tibolone manufactured by a Dutch company & sold under licence in the UK by Lexon. I'm going back to the chemist today to try to swap them for Livial by Mercks.
I'll let you know what happens.
We should stick it out and demand the make that suits us. A chemist that I spoke to said that the Tibolone dose may be the same, but the other ingredients in each pill are different and that may inhibit your body's uptake.
