tibolone/hysterectomy

i have multiple fibroids which have caused a prolapse of my womb, it is also pressing on my bowel and bladder, the consultant said i need a full vaginal hysterectomy, my consultant has put me on tibolone before i have surgery can anyone advise me wether i should take them, my periods are heavy and last for 7days, but im definatley not going through the meopause yet, just dont know why he has given me these,

please help with advice please

Hi Susan, If I were you I would ask my GP for his/her thoughts as to WHY they think the consultant has prescribed Tibolone prior to your hysterectomy.  When you take Tibolone for menopausal symptoms if I remember rightly - IF you are still having periods, they do cause periods to cease. Maybe that's the reasoning? It would make sense NOT to be bleeding heavily when you have your hysterectomy.

PS. I will never ever accept a prescription without always asking "WHY" first. Good luck with your op and hope you'll be feeling tons better afterwards.

Hi ladypink

you probably know what its like going to see different consultants, especially when they are foreign, cant seem to understand what they are saying, He did say they may have to take my overies, (i told him i didnt want them taken out) as i dont want to go through the change just yet, I am also concerned that the reviews about these tablets, ie weight gain (omg) spotty skin, rashes, he did say also that if they do take my overies then i wont be as bad when i have the op,

i can honestly say i am s**tting myself ooooops

Hi Susan, You poor thing, your anxiety is understandable. I DO think you should go and have a good discussion with your GP you know. Write down all the points you want to raise beforehand - this saves time. If you look at postings of mine regarding Tibolone they are extremely positive. I never had any side effects right from the start. I have gained a little weight now but that's to be expected as I am fast approaching my 70th and have been on them twenty years or more. People say I look younger too and no aches or pains or wrinkles! Hooray for HRT it's brilliant.

thank you lady pink

im awaiting a phone call from my consultant, i have to stop taking the tablets at the moment, apparently i have to have injections as well as the tablets which the other consultant didn't tell me, am glad i made the call now
