It's been 2 months and I've been doing I am gonna say ok , we all have a few hic ups along the way to recovery and I am no exception.
The past few days I've had this tight feeling in my operative leg. It's hard to explain but I'll try, it feels like it's swollen, I have no real pain just discomfort .
Hopefully this makes sense to someone else. It's from my knee up my thigh front and back hard to bend my knee.
Thanks ..
Hi Terrie,
This happens when the muscles get stressed, either by working out too much or sometimes by just accidently pulling that muscle. When muscles get stressed out like this it usually takes a while (several day or sometimes weeks) to get it feeling normal again. Try using a warm compress prior to doing anything physical (Walking for a while or working out). Always make sure that you gently stretch those muscles prior to working out. Make sure that after working out you apply ice packs to help reduce inflamation and swelling. At this early stage it is more important to rest, elevate leg as much as possible and apply ice several times a day. Physio is required, but be careful not to overdo things.
What you are going through is very common after a FHR because we tend to want to speed the healing process along. Unfortunately you just have to be patient.
Best wishes as you continue to recover!
Thank you, yes I do work out . I apply moist heat at night when I am lying down, I will try the ice afterward when working out, I ride the bike, 45 min a few weights no more then 15 lbs for upper body, and the eliptacal for 20 min.
I also walk about 1 mile after dinner. So I guess I am going a bit fast..
I just want to get back in shape, and be ready for my next THR . Oct. Of this year
Which came as a surprise on my 6 week check up.. so I am trying hard to get ready again for this.. thanks again good knowing I am not alone.
dear terrie,
I agree with Kimberley ... I also read your older posts and can't help but thinking that you are doing too much too soon -
Your other hip is also detoriating and your operated-on leg is being used to support it ... (I had similar problem)
When you are in pain, STOP ... slow down -
I used to go to the gym 3-4 times a week but had to stop when pain became unbearable - so I thought I could just pick up the exercises, right ..nope, things have changed, darling ... muscles, tendons etc. were severed (if posterior approach),, bone cut, joint forcefully dislocated and hardware banged in - so it is weak and your body needs to repair these damages and trauma ..
give it time and be gentle with Terrie ...
big warm hug
renee
Thank you .. I did slow down today and more lumbering up before exercise helped. I also iced it it,afterwards seems to calm things down .
I've always been active and to go slow seems so difficult to do, but I do try and stop, and remember it will hurt later.
I guess that's why they call me tanatious terrie.. lol thanks again.
Much to hot to do to much today anyway.
Maybe a long slow walk later.
