Tightness in Hip

Hi all,

I hope your all well and recovering well :o)

I have been trying to get back to normal a little bit (in the house) and I am thankful that since my last post full of worry, things have gotten somewhat better, but there are some thigs that I wanted to know if any of you had or are still experiencing.

It's now 16 days since my op and my stiches are due to come out tomorrow :o)

I feel good in general, but I still get the realy tender soreness at the back of my thigh and this can sometimes be so painful it' stops me from sleeping, when the pain doesnt stop me from sleeping I have noticed (more-so in last few days) that the op hip is either really (really) stiff and I feel really restricted (I.e) Moving about even if in bed resting, I feel like a stiff cardboard and the same when getting out of bed.

My walking is ok, I mean I can thankfully move around my home without both crutches and some cases without any crutches but my walking is real, real dodgy in that I still walk quite heavy and stomp with my legs apart so I need the crutches to help me to even and strraghten  out .

I just wanted to know if anyone recognises at this stage some of the things I have mentioned?

Thank you so much in advance

Yes, I remember it well, JC, (May I call you that?)

I walked like John Wayne for a bit after the op.

Don't worry, nothing lasts for ever. Each of these little phases wears off and then you get a new phase.

I like your lion, by the way.

Hi,

youll hear eat this a lot I'm sure ...

you our are really ear,y days. The soreness and pains etc are completely normal. And it's excellent that you are able to take some steps without crutches.

many people are still having these symptoms  a few months in.

id say try not to worry, but I am a terrible worrier since this op. Am 3 weeks post op, and the recovery isn't linear for me.  I fret about every twinge,!!

i honest,y think it's all completely normal.

Sorry about crazy spelling in previous post. I was writing without my glasses!

hope you got the gist of it.

Hi Shirley,

That fne I tend to use the first part of a name and miss out all the numbers :o)

Lol John Wayne, that made me laugh just imagining him walking. Ahh thank you as It's good once again to get reassurance that nothing im going through is odd.

Yes it a gorg Lion , thank you :o)

Hi LDW,

Yes it is good to hear it from them that know and the worry can flee. So thank you for reminding me. I can be impatient so I suppose Im getting fed up of being stiff and not being able to get out and about as I would like to (weather look lovely from my windows - Lol). I do feel much better now that I have mentioned it and assured it is normal; Thank you.

Thank you for replying :o)

Hi Shirley. How far along are you in your recovery journey?

im very early ie 3 weeks, and just starting to "get it" ie this is going to be quite a  journey with steps forward and back, good days and bad days, overdoing it and underdoing it, worry followed by relief.

I think when you have no idea what to expect, it takes a while to trust in the overall recovery process. Think I might be ready to just surrender to it .... The good, the bad and the ugly, and look forward to a happy and pain free Autumn lol!

Yes it's really frustrating when the rest of your body wants to move, but your hip/back/thigh are saying NO.

i have to remember that the recovery time for THR is a year. So boy are we early days!

i so want it to go quickly and be active again, but am beginning to "get it". Potentially a long haul to recovery, but well worth it in the end. 😊

No worries, this site would benefit from spell check as mine has deteriorated over the years (I blame PC's).

Your right about the 1 year full recovery so yh 3 weeks is nothing! [eek]

Take care and happy recovery.

Sixteen days, very early still.  I have been getting pains in my leg close to the scar lately, and it's 8 weeks since I was last opened up for a revision on what was then a 10 week old hip.  They weren't too bad, and lasted just a few days, just another "phase" to go through.

It is a long, slow process this healing that we have to endure, and it always seems to take longer than we think it should.

Best wishes

Hi Rocket,

Thanks for replying. Yes I agree, I feel like I have had enough time couped up and want to get back to normal so yes these issues Im experiencing I agree with you all, that they are reminders that my body is definitely still healing and (gulp) it takes up to a year for full recovery dn that depends on the individual.

Wow that could not have been easy going for a revision after already going through the start of the healing process. I feel for you but I pray your well on your road to recovery now. I need to take heed and just relax, as I read someones post say his consultant said you could actually ahve a dislocation upto week 12 and not know it I always had doctors/nurses tell me you would now if you had a dislocation.

Anyway, overall I will just continue to take it easy and be assured that my current symptoms are nothing strange.

Thanks once again for replying.

Hi LDW

I am nearly 6 months post op... I have to stop and think ... is it really SIX months?

At first you will count in days ... then weeks... then finally months.

Yes, you are on a journey but the final destination is worth it.

Best wishes for your trip,

Shirley

You are way beyond what I could do at 16 days! There is still an enormous amount of healing going on in the bones, muscles, tendons, skin and tissues at your point in recovery. Let it happen and try not to interfere! You are doing very well.

HI Blessed,

You are still so fresh out of surgery, so I believe that you are describing something normal.  I wonder if you are properly managing your pain?  You should be able to sleep with the aid of a good pain killer.  One phase of healing after the other and pretty soon you will be walking normally!  What a great day that will be!

Are you doing the exercises?
