Time off work

I had my 6 week check today. Booked my own with the GP as the consultant no longer does them??? I am doing well. However, she insisted on giving me another 6 week sick note. I did not expect that. I thought maybe two or three as there is no way I am up to going back full time yet, but 6? She kept repeating that I had major surgery ONLY 6 weeks ago and that I need to FULLY ( her emphasis) recover to avoid problems down the line. When I asked if I could come back in a couple of weeks to be signed off if I felt up to it she said, "well you could, but I would be very reluctant to do it....No, probably not". Worth considering if you have the option (I know some have no choice/sick pay etc) and are thinking of going back to work.

Am am 8 weeks post op , I returned to work last week (7eeeks ) but only phased return . 4-5 hours 2 days in work and 3 days at home . I was shattered at the end of last week! Over slept at the weekend too . If I could have been paid for more sick days I would have taken more time off . Do you still get paid for being off ?

Did you have a vagional or abdomonal hysterectomy??

I'm 8 weeks post op and have got another two weeks off. I'm no where near ready to return yet. Take your time to heal properly X

Sorry I didn't ask that question , I had a lap x

I had abdominal bikini line incision. Everything except ovaries removed along with loads of endometriosis and massive fibroid. I was in surgery 4 hours.

Yes I get sick pay so I admit I am in a very good position and I am very thankful for that

I just need to remember that I am not indispensable and hope that work don't realise that ha ha

Hi, I guess your GP would not sign you off if you didn't need the time off....I'm 6 weeks TAH on Thursday.....I always thought that I would not need the whole 12 weeks off but I'm having a bad dsyfunction today ( quite sore, tired and swollen belly)....I work for the NHS so will get paid....

It wasn't really until I started moving a bit more and doing a bit more this week that I started to get some discomfort back. And shaky legs. I think we get a false sense of how well we are because we aren't really doing anything that tiring for weeks. I felt fine when I was on the sofa most of the day

Plus my belly is more swollen than it has ever been. The scar is brilliant but still tender to touch.

Yes, I did too. I went to my 2 week post op appointment today and my doctor said that he really wishes I had taken 2 weeks off but i just couldn't. I did more research on the type of cancer they found, stromal sarcoma a rare slow growong cancer, and had my CT and all of my major organs are clear. Next surgery scheduled May 8th to biopsy tissue and remove fallopian tubes. I think I've decided if no other cancer is present that I will keep my ovaries and wait on becoming a crazed menapausal woman at 44yrs old smile Thanks for all the support everyone!

I m due my op next week, told my manager the gyno told me I d be off 12 wks and she was very stroppy and said I can drive after 6 weeks so can therefore sit behind my desk and go to work! I am gutted that I m getting no support and no sick pay, just SSP. My husband has told me he's making sure I don't go back for 12 wks now, regardless if having no money from work. That's the thanks i get after 7 years and never been off sick longer than couple of days. If your doc said you need another 6 weeks then take it, good luck

Hi clair (I remember your name from a previous thread)

Your husband is absolutely right you only get one chance at recovery so you need to listen to your body. I have just been signed off for another 4 weeks but am waiting pysio treatment .The worst thing about all this is the hospital tell you six weeks off work and like a fool i told work that. Well every time my sick note gets renewed i dread having to tell work. I don't know why as they have been really good about it and said they never realistically expected me back as they come round for lunch every week so can see i am still struggling. Luckily i am still on full pay but even if i wasn't i would have to forego the money for my health at the moment.. I too wish i had asked preop was full abdominal the only way to have this done as the recovery seems to be longer but remember i too had this following agony due to a failed ablation and i have now not had those awful monthly symptoms for three months now so maybe there is still a chink of light at the end of the tunnel😊Take care and i hope you have a good recovery. Love Sharon .

PS your boss knows nothing-i was told no driving or sex gor six weeks pre op and here i am at nine weeks still not signed off by GP to do either yet

12 weeks i believe is the expected norm, I am almost 8 weeks post op, I had a 6 week note then my doc gave me a 4 week note, she then said that I would need to see her at that point (so at 10 weeks) and that she would be looking at at least another 2 weeks if not 4 at that point! I also had a week off before my surgery as my boss sent me home and I was signed off with anxiety, so in total I will be off for either 13 or 15 weeks :o I think if anyone having this op has the oppurtunity to stay off for the full 12 weeks they really should, even my Occ Health dept says three months post op. I'm feeling quite good now but there are still things that I cannnot do yet.

Hi Nanny to 5,

I just cannot believe the attitude some employers are taking when there is serious major surgery going on here!  I love your husband's attitude, loyalty does not seem to count for much these days.  Make sure you take all the time you need for your op.

Love

Jacqui lol

Thank you Sharon for your support, I have been so upset by works attitude, my hubby said it's bad enough being stressed up over the op and to forget work! I realise you're the lady who had same symptoms as myself, failed ablation, I m on drugs at the moment to try and stop the contractions happening, which so far so good! I know I don't want the op but dreading if it's cancelled, u can't get myself worked up again like this. I m glad to hear yr doing ok and it's nice to know someone out there has had the ablation that's caused the same pains and knows how vile they are. Thank you for responding you have made me feel that little bit better x

Thank you jacqui for your comments I ll be glad when I m home and thinking i ve actually done it! Then I ll relax for my full 12 weeks recovery! ☺️

Hi Clair

Not long to wait now, are you all set to go?  I have everything packed, injection ready, my body is ready, but not sure about my brain, probably best to leave that at home! rolleyes  Can you put your picture in your box?  It would be lovely to see you.

Love

Jacqui lol

it would be interesteing to know where everyone is from to compare doctors opinions in different city/states/country. I live in the U.S Virginia Beach, VA

Is there anyone else out there that is dealing with cancer found that went undetected until their surgery? Like ME sad
