Well today I find out what the next chapter in the L knee saga is going to be. My appt is at 130pm and here it is 1145am. Saying that I am nervous is an understatement, I think I am somewhat prepared for the worst case but still nerves of steel are now nerves of mush!! The implant part is not a big deal what scares me is fixing the bone loss. Will it be one surgery or two what about recovery etc ? So yes I have been thru TKR's scopes partials this is all new and right now I am as nervous as most of you when you went in for your TKR. I did decide depending on what the Specialist says it may be time for a few cold beers when I get home. Cold beer on a hot day to me it sounds like a good way to feel better depending on what I am told.
Norm
How many weeks are you post op Norm
I guess the doctor needs to know all your questions and issues. All you can do is let him know all your worries and questions. Write all your issues down for reference. I wish you all the best and hope you feel better after you talk to your surgeon!
By all means enjoy a beer or two!
Norm, I don’t know how you keep your spirits up with all you are going through. Keep us posted and hopefully you will get a break.
Be encourage in the name of Jesus you can handle it ask ????? And yes you have a right to be nervous . Ask ?????
Just got back good news / bad news the good news the bone loss not an issue the Dr. can order a new implant to any size he needs.( That one issue was driving me nuts!! ) The Bad News, well I am going to need another surgery but the Dr that referred me to the Specialist the office never sent any of the lab results to the Specialist. The Specialist needs those results before he can go further, he feels I still have an infection going on inside my knee. So sometime hopefully in June I will have another revision but fingers toes etc I hope its not an infection those really stink.
I can moan and groan with the best of them and yes I do complain ask my son and daughter. The more I complain the worse it gets so why bother?? I would rather joke about it then think about how crummy it really is. If it turns out I have an infection since the Dr. feels based on the Bone scan and does not have the lab results from the Dr. that referred me I will not be quite as high spirited as I try to be. I had an infection after my 4th implant. I had a PIC line put in and had to have a nerf football size thing of high octane antibiotics 2 x a day for 2 months trust me that really sucks. So as it stands I will be having # 18 fairly soon along with room service and round the clock care its great!!!
Good luck for the revision, hope everything works out for you.
No date yet the Dr. stills needs the lab results that were supposedly sent awhile back. Now I have to wait and if he is not satisfied with the lab results he might want some more done. I understand why he wants to make sure he knows exactly what is wrong before he does anything. Now all I can do is wait and wait sort of like the ads for the Energizer Battery instead of going and going.
Yes, it is good that he wants all the lab results before he does anything.
Hope you are enjoying your cold beer!!!
So sorry to hear about your ongoing tkr issue. I was wondering why you have had to have 4 implants? I had tkr surgery 2/5/2018 with a custom made knee implant however some days I wonder if it is truly a good fit given the symptoms i experience. I'm being told I'm being impatient and the soreness is still a part of the hearing process. My range of motion is around 118. I had manipulation under anesthesia 2 weeks ago due to stiffness, I did gain a bit more range of motion (125) but most days its
Cont: Most days my range of motion is not 125. I am 70 years of age but a very active 70. I think waiting a long time to have TKR surgery is a mistake. I had bone on bone pain. Getting a lot of pre-op steroid injections and other injections in the knee only weakens the muscles and tissues around your knee I've been told and then when you have surgery, the recovery is not as easy. Any one else out there have a "custom made" knee implant ? If so how is it working for you?

I go in tomorrow to see the fate of my knee. Had surgery on March 23rd (TKR) Friday will be 8 weeks and I still can't bend my knee. At 97 degrees they want me to get to 120-140 but its been a major ordeal to get to 97.For the last 8 weeks I have not had one day that I did not have pain. It his sounding like I will have to be put under and they will go in and bend the knee for me. So i feel you being nervous. Not only nervous but scared. You hang in there and i hope you get the answers you need.
How much pain were u in after MIA. I will most likely have to have that done.
Based on the appt with the Dr. yesterday I will be getting a made to fit implant. Not sure if custom is the right word he showed me the implants can be made to fit any knee regardless of bone loss. To be honest the bone loss issue was driving me nuts now not so much. Hope this makes some sense your 3 months post op ( keep that in mind !! ) you will be sore you will have pain that drives you bananas. You cannot base your progress on anyone else, yes it would be great if you were totally pain free that some claim after 3 months but from my own saga most of the soreness ( not all ) was gone by 6 months. I know you do not want to hear it but be patient do the exercises you will get there.
Decided to wait on the beer, I had to take daughter to work and the idea of drinking and driving does not appeal to me. In a way a little bummed the new Dr. was supposed to have all the lab results prior to my appt. if my knee did not hurt it really would not bother me but that is not the case.
I wish I only had 4 currently at 5 and I can assure you they all hurt it does not get any easier with each replacement. For whatever the reason each time I get a replacement it is supposed to last 10 to 20 yrs I average 2 to 3. The majority of the time the replacement fails due to loosening or improper placement. MY last 4 major surgeries were from 6-27-15 to 5-9-16. My 4th implant was done July 27 2015 surgery went well home in 2 days. Two weeks later starting on a Friday morning had a slight fever by the following Monday my fever was at 103. I was admitted that day in had surgery the next day to clean out the infection. I went home with a PIC line. Its used as a in home way of getting antibiotics like you would at the hospital thru an IV. This had to be done 2 times a day for 2 months it took 2 hours each time. IN October PIC line removed. Still being monitored for infection Dec.30 2015 had to go back in hospital and had a spacer put in for 4 months. ( Had to use crutches the whole time ) and had the Pic line put back in. Finally May 9th 2016 5th replacement and now 2 years later Dr. thinks I still might have an infection and I need to have another revision. So 2 years post op I still have pain some days depending on my activity it hurts like hell but my situation is different the odds are you will do great.
So sorry you are experiencing this ordeal. I read on another site (Bonesmart) that there is such a situation as being allergic to the metal and / or plastic components used to make the implants. Has your surgeon explored this possibility? I certainly wish you luck with future treatments.
