Timing .. other side

I'm 18 months post, and discomfort now equal both sides. One surgeon said to wait til I can't walk before I get another X-ray, let alone elect for surgery.  My question is why wait til all that abnormal bone growth further impedes mobility and bone grinding on bone. I'm at the point where the groin hurts and folding over painful and extensors giving up in yoga. I don't know which is worse: to go a year getting worse and worse, gradually giving up more and more activity, or have the trauma of surgery and another year taken out of my life. Also I would go private as the nutrition, physio etc were soabominable. I may even try Amsterdam or a Northern European country, so much was my faith in this system eroded. Although I do yoga,  can't walk more than 15-20 minutes. Can get on, but not off a horse, which defeats the object. I just don't like the constant pain reminding me of what's Deteriorating in that joint and what I have to look forward to. Makes you sweat with anxiety... Any considering the other side, and at what poin.

Hi I asked my surgeon at my 6 week check if there was any reason medically for me to wait to have my other hip done. My left was worse and was done in December. My right had similar but lesser wear but would eventually need replacing. He said no reason medically for me to wait but that the waiting list on nhs at my health authority was now over 6 months for routine op. I elected to go private and was back in hospital(same surgeon) two weeks later. Best decision I made. Recovering nicely now back for my final consultant visit tomorrow (oops today). Good luck.

Hi

I'm having RTHR in 30th if April and I've been told like you that I will need the other done as it's just as bad as my right one.

I plan to push to have my left one done asap.  I've spent 3 years getting to this point and I am not prepared to suffer unnecessarily any more.

Listen to your body and do what's right for you.

Good luck

This sounds awful and suggests you prob need an op ASAP.

I like Paula's view that you should push for what you want and need. You've paid into the NHS thru taxes after all.

All l can suggest in addition to your GP you cast the net to include other people of influence in your area. Ten years ago the surgeons in Oxford were paying attention to requests from an internationallyrecognised osteopath locally and a letter from him got me done with 3 month wait.

My left leg THR happened 4 weeks in Exeter ago after a one month wait...cos my brilliant GP knowingly sent me to a senior physio whose letter worked wonders.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Mic

Thank you Mic, Paula, Vicki

going private, and the oxford info v informative as I'm in Oxon.. May ask later for Osteo name by private email, mic.  I think I need more info gathering locally and from non surgical alternative profs..  What's worse is that my shoulder isstarting to deteriorate!  What next, it comes in threes.  I'm on holiday wearing the Velcro belt around the SI and pelvis, which is discreet and really does support.  Hey, really am Lego now (excuse yet another pun)
