Tinnitus can any one help!

I had a traumatic neck manipulation by a chiropracter a year ago. Along with other symptoms that I have been in & out of hospital, consultants rooms & GP more times than I can remember with, the main & most disturbingly frightening symptom is increasing Tinnitus. It seemed to be in head generally, then went on to include in just one ear. Over time it has developed in other ear & all in all there is an orchestration 5 or 6 noises that are increasing in intensity. This of course is having a devastating effect on my life! Strong fan needed by bed at night just to drown out sound. Does any one out there know if these medications may be increasing Tinnitus. Unfortunatly I am now on Diazepan 15mg p/night, Dosulepin 25mg p/night for the depression it has caused, Pregablin(Lyrica 150mg p/day for pain, Levothyroxine for low thyroid function. I have been told to wear a hearing aid with noise to suit my internal acoustics! I am a young & previously very fit, healthy 56 year old, so really p.... off this is happening. I would be grateful for any kind advice. Thanks

Dear Janette,

i feel for you, I really do.

ive never experienced tinnitus in my life (I'm 41) until I changed antidepressants and took setraline. Doctor wouldn't have it and blamed the tinnitus on my anxiety rather than meds. But all I can say is, when I lessened the dose the tinnitus reduced. I know my mother also got tinnitus when she took some meds for her heart, so I think there's a link between some medications and tinnitus.

i really hope you find some peace soon x

Dear Helen

Thank you for your reply, it is reassuring in a way that tinnitus may be exacerbated by antidepressants. Will continue with my reductions of meds. There is a hope of some peace! Although it is linked to inner ear problems brought about by the neck manipulation I feel meds are adding to probs.

Ironically I am a meditator & always valued inner peace. How long after you were on Sertraline did the tinnitus start? Do you know the name of your mothers heart medication?

Thanks x

I also have tinnitus and all kinds of sounds and crakling, vibrations and popping at times. It is horrible! It is just really horrible. You are not alone.the crakling and popping my doctor swears is the little fluid that seems to be in there and wont leave. I have a lot of strange ear stuff that i cant stand lately. I just keep praying it goes away already. Some say its stress induced, maxiallary surgeon says its tmj, ent says fluid and retracted eustatian tube. I say it can be maddening at times, sounds vary and do come and go. Sometimes a few sounds occur at once. Sound sensitive to boot. Apparently everyone is telling me any people have this stuff and its really common. The crackling and popping i have to wait for the fluid and etd to recvover but the noises i use hypnosis. I have before and restarted it recently. IF you chiose hypnosis find one for tinnitus and you do it 30 days every night.  Ebook had one in audiobooks. I also recently got handheld personal mister for sinus i do get a little inflammed so for me inflammation plays a role.

I dont use AD meds. Or much of anything except

b12 shots and b complex. And an emergency xanax (10 a year maybe) never showed anything on a scan or Doppler. I did doppler tests yesterday. Just inflammation shows. And retracted eustatian tube thing.

Hi Janette,

I've checked my diary for you. When I started the sertraline the tinnitus developed pretty quick as well as a sore neck (ironically) and a vice grip like pain around the top of my head.

Re my mum, from memory, she had some irregular heartbeat problem, but I don't know the name of the meds she was on. I know that when she stopped the pills, the tinnitus went.

let me know if you need anything else, hope you enjoy your Sunday xxx

Hi Helen

Thank you so much. Have a good Sunday! x

Hi Lisa. Sorry to hear your also suffering. I do hope you get a cure soon.ihave several types of sound from deep motor rumbling to the highest pitch imaginable usually all at once, it hurts its soooooo hight pitched! My feelling is the chiropracter trapped a nerve & damaged ligaments that eventually get to the inner ear & that is why over time it has increases & like you say stress ahs a lot to do with it- it makes one stressed! Like you I have an imflammatory problem in body.I wonder if anti inflammatories would help?

GP given me Betahistine 8mg 3xpday. Has anyone else had this for tinnitus as I think its making it worse!

What is Xanax & used for?? How did you manage to get a doppler test? It is difficult & takes several months to get any referals & tests at our GP's.

Do you think the vit B & B12 shots helps? I read somewhere that extremely high doses of vit b12 can ward off altziemers

Thanks
