Just after some advice please possibly to make me feel slightly better and stop my health anxiety. I'm 27 around 3 months ago I started with a chest infection, I suffer with asthma so took me a bit of time to get over it. However under three weeks ago I started suffering with what only I can explain as sinus pains and my ears feeling full. I noticed my left ear was also muffled. I made contact with the GP and due to what's going on with covid 19 it's been difficult but I've managed to have a face to face appointment. They said my ears were extremely red inside. I asked if they could see my ear drum and they couldn't. I've been given numerous antibiotics and antibiotic spray which hasn't worked. About 8 days ago my hearing reduced on my right ear so I'm really struggling to hear now with an awful tinnitus sound in my left. My left ear also started to leak 3 days ago so they have managed to take a swab and should get results tomorrow. I'm so scared I'll be left with this hearing loss and tinnitus. Has anyone suffered with this before. thanks
Hi Melissa. Sorry to hear that you have been struggling with ear problems. You could have an ear infection...especially since you notice drainage. My suggestion is that you try to see an ENT (ear, nose, throat specialist). ENT specialize in ear problems and hearing difficulty. They should be able to diagnose what is going on. Sounds like you just need a better antibiotic. I'm sure it is no more serious than that.
Thank you for your reply. I do hope so. I'm just struggling with the dramatic hearing loss and tinnitus at the moment but I know they can be symptoms. I will see what the GP says later about my swab test. I'm allergic to penicillin which isn't ideal. So they've tried me on a few different types. Hopefully I will know more later today and see if I can get referred to ENT. Thanks again
Making small changes to your lifestyle could help you with that ::)
Hi Jessica, thanks for the reply. In what way do you mean? to help with the tinnitus and hearing loss? thanks in advance.
A healthy diet would always help you with that :) Also you should avoid too much of salt, sugar or caffeine as it wouldnt help you.
Get to an ear specialist or emergency unit immediately to get the right medicine! It sounds like ear inflammation. It must be treated right to avoid problems with hearing. Are you experiencing vertigo? "Can't see the eardrum"? Was it a doctor? The eardrum is all they can see. Unless there were wax blocking them.
You will be better with the right treatment.
hi Ken, sorry I've only just seen your reply. A week ago I woke up unfortunately with left facial paralysis. Within 1 hr of being at a&e I was admitted to the ent ward on a drip. Antibiotics and steorids. 2 days later I had grommets fitted. I can hear again left ear isn't brilliant but that was redacted and had a small perforation so will take time. However I feel million times better. Thank you
