Tips for bulking up stool?

My stool is always broken up into pieces. Most of the time they're very little pieces, or "shards". Sometimes they're a bit longer but will appear flat, and rough. It feels as though stool moves too quickly through my intestines and doesn't have time to bulk up. This ALWAYS leaves me with the feeling that I could not fully empty my bowel during a trip to the bathroom as pieces of stool always get stuck behind. What can I do to bulk up my stool?

Hi I'd love to know too I've had this for 8 months since semonella poisioning - gastro doctor says I've got post infectious sibo suggests low fodmap diet with normafibre for bulking.

You describe my bm exactly - on a positive note mycolonscopy was clear. So that was a relief I thought I might of had a blockage causing the flat and thin stools.

Anxiety might be the reason I read lately that IBS can cause those type of stools

I have always had broken up stools even before IBS.  To be honest.I am not particularly bothered about it. I am hapoy just to be able to go to the loo at all.  

Pieces of stool aren't in themselves an issue but if it bothers you then you need to increase soluble fibre in your diet.
