Tips for calming anxiety attack???

I wanna start a thread to actually help.. So everyone give me your best tricks to soothing your anxiety attacks or even just calm your anxiety!!

For me personally..

As a mental detour or distraction.. I draw a lot, I also LOVE my coloring books, and sometimes I read

If distraction isn't enough.. I journal, I write everything I am thinking and feeling onto a piece of paper. Then I re read it and am able to sort my rational thoughts from my irrational. Or I mediate- sit or lay down and take deep breaths in and out while counting how many seconds it takes for each, focusing solely on counting and my breathing

So WHATS YOURS?!

Listening to guided meditations for anxiety, depression, sleeping, found on YouTube.

listening to a five minute mindful breathing meditation on YouTube

stay active and get regular exercise

stay social… Avoid prolonged periods of being alone at least in the beginning

do things I enjoy. Taking a break from all electronics and walking in nature, appreciating it all

being good to myself, not taking life too seriously, remembering to smile and laugh!

What you are doing is a good idea! I think too many people on here are feeding off of each other when all they do is talk about what is wrong with themselves. It could actually increase anxiety and even symptoms in others.

So that's good you're putting some positive ideas On here! 😃🌸🌸🌸

Awesome! I need to integrate exercise into my routine!

Great post. We need more positive posts. I have a selection of relaxation mp3 from all over the web that I use, I use them during anxiety attacks.

I also have a sketchpad nearby ( can't draw for toffee) but I just scribble little cartoons or pictures down or write down how you feel on paper then screw up the paper with your anxious feelings on them and throw them away. Watch them go away.

Do anything to distract yourself, no matter how hard it is at the time.

Failing that, put on some dance music, crank up the volume and dance in the most stupid way you can. Show your anxiety you don't care. (don't do this in the shopping mall though) people stare believe me.

Also TALK if you can to someone, tell them how you feel, don't bottle it up as I have done in the past. Talk about anything, even on the phone,

Distraction is the key. Stay wih it, no matter what you decide to do, ride it out.

For me i go into my bedroom shut the door and listen to calming anxiety techniques or pray or listen to affirmations... I have three young girls so a don't get to often but soon as I can I do this as it seems to help me shut my mind off and I can calm down enough that a feel more at peace... or nice walk with calming music in my ears sometimes helps..

I have two little boys so I understand how hard it can be to step back

Yeah it makes a little harder no one really helps with my little ones unless a asked and a don't like To

Being outside in my garden and mending the plants

Listening to music that makes you happy, and calm

Dance

Opera, Beethoven.

Bicycling, going for a walk, jog.

Eating lol

Go Fishing.

Imagine being on the beach and listening to the water it's relaxing.

I clean to block my thoughts. When you clean you don't have time to stress about things. You're tired and busy.

Sleep.

Small projects that involve the garden.

You can always take your kids to the park and play soccer, basketball, ect with them.

Read positive inspirational quotes or funny memes.

Driving relaxes.

The same counting breaths(breathing from diaphragm not chest)...positive inner dialogue...

Writing down anxious thoughts then writing down rational thoughts so that I can see and tell myself what's real and what's irrational fear...keep busy. Most people myself included who are anxious are really creative and analytical so focusing these traits on creative activities is like therapy instead of harboring them and becoming bored letting your mind run wild which for us is sometimes where we get anxiety started going.

Great post
