Can anxiety and depression cause very very tired. I feel like im so drained I can fall asleep standing up. My head just wants to drop down

I feel like this a lot, yes! I get nervous at work as I'm so tired! I have to keep pinching my arm so hard to keep me focused! It leaves me feeling very spaced out! At the same time though I can't sleep!!! sad

Hi Codyray18,

Yes - tiredness is one of the classic symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Coming onto these forums has shown me that my anxiety / depression, as it seems cyclical, is likely down to my hormones and the peri-menopause as I am 49. In the last week and a half my sleep patterns are all over the place and I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat during the day - right up until actually going to bed!

My period has ended and my energy levels are begining to creep up, along with my moods, but my nights are still so restless. Until coming to this site I really thought I was "just" depressed as this has been going on several years now. I realise I have a tendency to overthink so many things and I end up an angry, confused, uptight, weepy insomniac with no interest in life, frequently thinking "what's the point?" and panicking over every little thing.

Reading the different anxiety / depression / menopause posts I see a whole host of similarities. After several triggers my anxieties / panic attacks came on in my mid - late teens  and seeing so many sufferes starting at a similar age - I really am wondering if hormones could be playing a large part in anxiety / depression?

If I was medically trained, I think I would seriously look into it - somebody must have done?.

Hi,

Yes, this is one of the main symptoms of depression and anxiety. Eating healthily and exercising does actually help though! Exercise is the best anti depressant  smile
