My mum has had a total knee replacement 2 years ago and is still suffering from lots of pain. She had a knee joint that is less used less frequently as 2 of her ligaments had worn away.
The consultant said it could take up to 3 years to settle.
Has anyone else experienced pain after 2 years and did it improve by the 3rd year?
It's getting mum down as she feels it will never get any better. She's tried nerve numbing creams and different medication but they make her feel ill. She takes codeine and paracetamol. Thanks Karen
I've been told 2 years bb it only because off The number of surgeries and rehabs and all of the damage to my leg. You might think about asking for a 2nd opinion if that's allowed in your system. Sometimes a new pair of eyes will see new options.

I was also told that it will be at least 2 years till you feel you 'own' the new joint. I am feeling much more confident with it (9 months right RKR) but still get some sensitivity and have numbness on one side which I think will never go away. (The registrar said that sometimes nerves which had to be cut don't mend.) But the pain and feeling like it will give way without warning are gone.
Tell her to hang in there, it will get better. The prgoress might seem so slow, but one day you will notice that suddenly that you can do things that you weren't able to do a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks that's good to know. Mum has that sensitivity and numbness too and sometimes it feels like it will give way. Good to know this and the pain have now gone. I'll tell her to hang on there too! Thanks 😀
