TKR HOW LONG??? BEFORE FULL RECOVERY

Okay. I am now seven months recovery, taking water therapy twice a week. No pain. How long will the rubber band tightness feeling stay with me. It's when I get up from sitting and getting up.

I'm at 13 weeks and get up from sitting like the tin man from Wizard of Oz. A friend said I need a oil can. Not encouraging to know this will last many more weeks. My doctor keeps saying one year !!!

Wow! No pain, how long have you been doing water therapy. I am only 12 weeks out. Still have pain and lots of swelling.

Almost 6 months. Sorry no good news here about stiffness. Especially the last week stiffness driving me nuts. Waking up with it is a given, as well as after sitting. Now it lasts all day.

Wow.  This had not been a good experience.  I was not aware of the recovery could take a year or so.  I had no pain after surgery. Only took meds to go to therapy to get thru that, no problem sleeping after surgery, bending at 119 after six three days a week at physical therapy plus doctor suggested water fitness which had been great. My only problem is the rubber band feeling when I get up from sitting. I really think my quad muscle is weak

had very little pain after surgery. No reason for pain meds except going to therapy.  Everything is good except the dealing with the tightness. It is taking a long time to me in getting better. Anyone else experiencing this

Other forums have answered it could take a long time.  What is needed is patience.

Then count your Blessings, I also have the tightness and my doctor said it may last for up to a year. I wish I could say no pain but I have RA and surgery was a little difficult for me because of that. I still have some pain but not to bad. I am sleeping better but if I am up on my knee doing something all day I pay for it at night.

Great description! 😁

It is quite an effort to pace activity isn't it! I keep having to remind myself to take a day at a time. I am very achievement orientated, and it is quite a profound experience to relinquish the normally constant "to do" lists!

Hi I am at 14 months post op bilateral TKR'S. Still stiff, still tight and have weird bone pain at night. 12 months is lower end estimate of recovery time so be patient. Gotta keep moving! Good luck!

Yeah.  What they said.  I'm same as u but had every pain possible I believe with this.  I fell on both knees one month ago.  Rubber band  back with a vengeance along with stiffness and soreness.  Pain in both knees while sleeping.  I think the short answer is to consider yourself very, very lucky.  You won the lottery.  Blessings

You can have the tight, band feeling for 12-18 months.  At 14+ months, mine is gone.

That's a blessing.  I am waiting on the morning I wake up and Irs not there.

Did you have problems with your quad muscle.  Sight numbness still but if is improving.  With your tightness gone does your knee feel as near normal as possible??

i am terrified of falling. I am 70 years old but was still wearing high heels and the first thing I asked the doctor when told I needed the surgery, how soon will I be able to wear my heels.  He stated only when I say you can go back. At this point, I don't want to look at a high heel.   I have only been wearing sketches tennis shoes.  I am very careful stepping off curbs, etc.

Did not know the recovery time would be like this.

well I guess I am glad to know that there are people with this problem for this length of time.  I feel it is getting better, but oh so slow.  No pain at night, some slight tingling sometimes

I feel you.  I had no idea the recovery would be this slow.  Certainly not expected to take a year or more.  I am a caterer and I was expecting to get back much sooner

yes I was told the exact same thing AFTER the surgery.  Was not told about the possibility of tightness lingering this long.  I have learned tho be patient
