Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me,i had a double tooth extraction 10 days ago and the wound  is still open, and today has been bleeding a little, should i phone up my hospital and tell them as im due surgery in a weeks time and unsure what to do..not sure if they will postpone my surgery due to this..thanks

Most definitely inform the hospital.

Thanks lynn,i will do,just to be sure ..

One of the 1st things I was told, never mix dental work after a tkr w/o telling the dentist as he will then make a decision whether to include a round of antibiotics prior to doing the work. My guess it would be as important the other way around.

Hi Lou - Definitely call the hospital for advice. This was one of the key points that was reiterated when I went for pre-op assessment, consultant appt, physio/OT discussion. Like me, you've likely waited a long time for a TKR and it is surgery that will affect your mobility for the rest of your life. Don't take ANY risks, even if it means a small delay - what is a short delay to surgery compared to risking a bone infection?

Yes definitely, hope everything is fine for you

Absolutely let them know, because of risk of infection.

Thanks ozcat, i have just called them and it has been cancelled,as they said no extractions should be done 4 weeks before surgery and mine were done on the 26th of feb....feeling sad...

That's hard . just as you must have got your mind around the idea of the operation in a week's time, but better to take absolutely no risks whatsoever!

Yes Lou, you do need to advise the hospital of the open wound (failing which your doctor), and leave it to them as to whether they wish to continue with your surgery on the given date.

My feeling is that they will probably postpone the surgery.

yes thats what they have done, best to be safe than sorry, but its hard when you have got yourself into the frame of mind to have it done..hopefully it wont be too long ..

I agree that when you get into the mindset of preparing for something like this, and the whole thing seems to go to pot, it is annoying and disappointing all at the same time.

The only consolation (if there is one), is that it is probably for the best.

Good luck with it all.

Hey Roland, Caz & I were just talking about you 😀

Are you in rehab now? How are you doing??

Betty

i think really wise of you... yes, disappointing... but HEY!! Look on the bright side you've got 4 more weeks to get your whole self in tip top condition, make a few nice meals for the freezer or cakes! and think what else you can do to prepare that you'd forgotten.😏 keep smiling.

Can't think of 2 nicer people to be talking about me. Having the usual ups and downs. This the absolutely no bending the knee. I am in an immobilizer. Pain levels have been maintained well but as I am on a 25% weight bearing the only part of creating pain is the pull on the leg and bouncing. I thought I would be going to the rehab unit but as they as they are closely monitoring the inflammation and antibiotic levels, I won't be leaving till tomorrow. Feels very clunky not having any parts of the knee, just the spacer which is a strange lookin apparatus. Weather is beautiful, I'm told. 70+f yesterday and will be in the high 60's for the next 4 days, then back in the high 50's

Ooh, that's gotta be tough not bending your knee! Hope this will go quickly so it won't be long when you are looking back on it!

Keep us posted on your progress!

Good thoughts to you, Betty

Nasty business.  Hope you get on well in rehab, fingers crossed.  Look forward to hearing your progress.
