Just curious, where are you located. I'm from the mid Section of the US
I'm also in the US, cold New England.
Looks like its going to hang in there cold for awhile. We are having an unusually warm period and it looks like the worst is over. You have probably already noticed weather is a real problem when it comes to steadyvrecovey. A sudden change in the barometer change send the pain level soaring to an intolerable level and generally happens 24-48 hrs in advance of the actual storm. I haven't found anything that makes it easier to live with.
I never thought about it being like having a leg cut off and reattached... but I suppose it is really... weather here in UK is very cold just now... snow and ice for nearly two weeks now... I do notice a difference .. my poor knee has given way lots recently ... muscle weakness... . I am nursing a badly bruised thigh after my latest tumble.... thankfully wasn't my operated leg.... but it does mean I am back on crutches... can't wait for warmer weather....
It is quite cold but with nice weather. If Oldfatguy1 is correct, then my pain levels should rise this weekend as snow is predicted. I'm nervous about falling, so I venture out inquently, just for PT mostly. I am also ready for warm weather this year.
How far along are you in recovery?.
I had both knees done a week apart mid December. I'm at the 5th& 6th week post op. Despite having a discouraging day, I have no regrets in getting the surgery. Even walking was difficult. Years of sports and being active caught up with me.
You?
Anything that messes with steady recovery is truly a negative and a set back. That's what happened to me. I fell directly on my knees ( and my forehead, needing stitches). Three weeks later the knee started swelling and now I'm back in therapy trying to get strength back. I also lost 12-15° of bend that I have to recover.
Falling is my fear right now, a lot of ice. Good luck with the R&R (rehab & recovery).
Hi.... There are days I do regret having surgery.... my knee did give way a lot before TKR... only difference is I don't have much pain... still can't walk far due to muscle weakness and years of poor posture and misshapen joint... I am 20 weeks on and have had several bad falls.... although I have been very lucky not to have done myself a serious injury...
I take comfort from all your posts. I had knee replacement in September but healing was delayed by having a heamatoma. This has now gone. But the knee is still swollen. Nevertheless each day I know I can do more than I did the day before. I can now sleep on my side.. Yippee a major milestone. I can use the exercise bike and walk without pain in the knee. Have found on a return to work albeit-on reduced hours that that the knee and leg swells up quite a bit. However my consultant said that could last a while - he said the younger you are the more swelling you can get. Liked the fact he called me young!,Does anyone else still get swelling? Not sure about the bend but it's not stopping me doing anything.
Like you I had what the consultant described as a "huge" heamatoma - & I to go back in hospital for 2 days, then 2 weeks bed rest, so boy, was I behind everyone else! I am at 13 weeks, & today I finally got a measure of 95 degrees! It felt like winning the lottery. I have one more physio session, then I will be discharged, as she said the improvement will now follow each week. I still cannot go up stairs normally, & certainly don't attempt coming down stairs normally, but I know I will get there! I still have swelling after physio, & after walking for a while, but it will, eventually, go back to normal (if I can remembr what that was!!)
I'm 3-1/2 months post knee replacement. I'm older then you are. I also have been sick, plus the process has irritated my already terrible back. I too went throught the stuck on 99m just couldn't get to 100, suddently I got past it. Not unusual. My knee would pop at times & the numbness kind of freaked me out but PT told me I'm not going to harm my knee with the exercises. Hang in there. My last PT was 5 days ago & I got to 108 & with PT's help I got to 113. Went to my Ortho Dr 2 days ago & he said I am doing good. I am hard on myself too.
When I go back to him in 3 months he wants me at 120-125. I plan on working on it & getting there. I have bad back issues as well so slowed me down a bit. Keep doing the physical therapy. It's so important. Best of luck.
Yes.....you can continue to improve. This, being my 5th rehab , the expectation were a little lower by everyone. Surgeon said 110 would be workable as long as straight was @1or 2. Last week @ therapy, just for The records, the therapist measured and I was 117/0. 3 weeks before that I was 115/0. So at 79 years old, 11 surgeries, 3 different prosthesis and 5 rehabs I am continuing to improve. Doesn't mean anyone should feel like the should be there or actually up with anyone else. I have been under constant supervision and therapy this time since last June. The other plus.....for some reason I was almost @ 0 when I got back into therapy after the last surgery. The only thing they can attribute the straightness.....5 months of immobilization with no bend and I worked on the quads s I had nothing else to occupy my time
Thank you for your words of wisdom and encouragement. It's just what I needed. Two weeks out today.
