TKR

Hi to Everyone,

Now at the start of 7 months and have been to hell and back.

But now starting to feel a 'little' easier.

My Doctor has now given me Gabepetin 300mg 3 times a day to take away the throbbing, as there is only so much you can take!!!

Go to the gym every other day and do total work out, cycling, rowing, cross trainer, weights, leg lifts and any thing else the gym can give me along with exercises given to me from my PT. Aquarobics as well.

Now playing  tennis (or try to) twice a week, and running is getting better, not fast but at least I can go for a ball, even jumped for a ball last week.

My friends have noticed that I'm moving better.

I notices middle of this week that my knee seems to be a little more flexible.....

I only need 1 pillow in the bed at night also, I sleep on my right and place my knee against the pillow, not on it...

Away end of September and hoping to do a little more tennis, along with more cocktails!

Consultant said that I would be looking at 1 year until my knee was back to normal, so roll on Feb 2019.........

Best wishes to all, cos this is one hard slog.

Sue

Hi Susan  my goodness you do such a lot you put me to shame but then I’ve never really been that fit I do what I can and hope for the best but you’re right it is a very long hard slog enjoy your tennis have fun remember take care don’t overdo it

Well done Susan you have done really well hopefully my tkr will start to feel better as I'm back at work Monday went back to work after my tkr 4mths doing a lot more than what I done recovery is slow but worth it in the end.

I think you are doing far too much especially running! You will reduce the life of your knee , but that is up to you . I had mine done just before Xmas and haven’t taken any pain killers since about 8 weeks but don’t do anything close to what you are. I was told that shouldn’t run on new knee by the two different surgeons I had on each , seven years apart .

Wow! If you can do all that exercise I would consider you to be back to normal, I can't even walk without pain, fair play to you, I think your great x

Wow Susan you are doing awesome!!! Keep up the hard work!! I am not doing as good as you but, hopefully you just gave me some inspiration!!

Susan, I am six months from TKR and my doctor said no running or  tennis. It puts a lot of strain on the knee and will cause it to need replacing much too quickly.

Tennis and running are No No's for knee replacements.  You will be having your knee replaced long before you should if you keep it up.

People have a huge range of different experiences, struggles, and the time it takes for people to feel positive about their new knee and mobility varies. Sounds like you are doing well. Lotsnofnthe following is copied and pasted, as I only pop by on the forum now occasionally...but here you go...

Outcomes vary and no surgery has a guarantee of success, however the vast majority of people have a good outcome. Some have results which surpass their expectations and some people have less than they hoped. Often it takes much longer than people would like it to, but others have a comparatively rapid rehabilitation and recovery.

We are all different, and whatever happens, you need to choose to believe in a positive outcome. It will keep you motivated to invest energy and effort into your recovery.

Here are some posts you might find encouraging, from different points along the recovery path!

I kept a journal of my own knee replacement experience, right from before the surgery right to the one year mark..may be worth a skim through. It has a lot of useful suggestions and information. Hopefully it might be useful to you.
