tmj pain suddenly got a lost worse after a dental check up and osteopathy treatment yesterday. Trying not to panic, but tablets not dealing with it, and Sunday I was on half dose and not in any pain! Sorry, i am mostly having a moan. I know damp
heat stretching relaxing(!). Get enough sleep. Waiting on hospital appointment, but I don’t want them to grind my teeth down.
Hi Claire,
Sorry you are in so much pain.
Get you GP to prescribe you some Diazepam as it seems like your jaw has gone into a spasm.
This happens to me sometimes and you are right its jolly painful.
I dont think they will grind your teeth, they may offer a Arthroscopy to see if they can make some addjustments. I think an MRI first though.
Good luck Claire, let us know how you get on.
Best wishes
hi, i was considering diazepam. but i dont like taking taking it. thanks for the reply and good wishes
Hi Claire,
Sometimes the TMJ pain is really worse.
I had some dental procedures last year. Two months before, I felt sharp pain while chewing.
In a few days I even had difficulty in opening my moth. I thought it’s because of the porcelain crowns that I got from a dental clinic last december.
So I consulted a dentist last month. He examined me and said it’s TMJ problem.
My dentist gave me pain meds and suggested doing relaxation exercises.
I’m doing the exercises and some massaging. Now I’m planning to try acupuncture treatment too.
However when the pain is too much there are some other remedies to try.
Using moist heat and cold packs is one thing.
You can also try some jaw stretches.
Use mouth guards to prevent teeth grinding and jaw clenching.
It will also help you to realign your jaw.
But none of this isn’t working, please
