just recently whenever I am having an episode of TN I became brave enough to put pressure on the trigger area. This resulted in the immediate reduction/ stopping of the pain. Has anyone else ever experienced this?
Yes, I have but other times, I need to apply pressure at other points, usually around the hinge joint in my jaw. Also, opening my mouth wide sometimes help (like that famous painting 'The Scream'!), and others by puffing out my cheeks. Whatever helps that particular episode, it goes eventually and while it may be (for me) only a minute or so, it feels like forever! I say, whatever helps you through - go for it. Heather
Hi, When you say trigger area do you mean right where the pain is?
Yes,, I press firmly but gently around the area and most times can find a spot that seems to relieve it. Worth a try.
Thanks Heather, I will try that.
been thinking about this and not yet looked up where the pressure points are could you please tell me where they are.
Hi fed-up - see my replies above to Anna - hope it helps
Hi.
Presently my trigger area or spot is on my lip line immediately below my right nostril. It takes some bravery but recently whenever I have applied major pressure to this area during an episode the pain has relented and disappeared. Other trigger areas in the past have been inside my mouth, teeth, throat, eyelids, nostril. I don't yet know how those areas will react to pressure and dread even the thought of how I will attempt to apply pressure.
Hi, I'm new to the forum. Have had TN for 12 years and have been very well controlled with Trileptal an recently have had a change to Lyrica. However, I have just had a severe breakthrough of lightening bolt and burning pain over the last couple of days. I have constant pain in my right upper teeth. Anyway, while I was just getting through an episode, I put my head right back on the couch and the pain immediately stopped. Such a relief! And just yesterday, I was doing some sweeping, and I found having my head down, I felt the pain beginning and when I put my head back up, the pain stopped. But, I will try putting pressure on the trigger spot. Anything to stop that horrendous pain. All the best.
