For some people, the TN pain comes and goes. Have anyone kept track of what causes it to go away ?
I've had TN toothache for more than 2 years. It's pain 24/7. There are times that it comes every 5 minutes thru out the day. Like you're getting your teeth drilled every 5 minutes, spreads thru out the face. Can't sleep, can't talk, can't eat and can't drink without pain. Tried lyrica but it didin't help. Had my first experience of what depression actually feels like as its side effect. No more drugs for me. Why take a drug if it's not curing me ? I want to be cured.
For 3 months i took additional b6 and b12 vitamins, and vit C ( read somewhere it's good for the nerves ). I took fish oil ( to reduce inflammation ). For 2 months I cut gluten off my diet, took milk, eggs, caffine off as well. For the first time in 2 years i'm finally pain free. People with TN pain should seriously look inwards to yourselves for a cure. I mean, TN is not caused my anything external... like a virus or bacteria.. your body is somehow reacting to itself. Food sensitivity causes inflammation which causes the body to attack itself ? Who knows where it chooses to do it. Try a change of diet. Maybe it'll work. It's drug free and you've got nothing to loose. You may need to be patient though, it'll take time. It took me more than 2 months. May everyone be pain free.
hi!I hadn't thought ov any diet changes i'l av 2 av a go at reassessing my habits wiv any luk I mite get it rite yeah?lol! em x
Mine has subsided but flares up just had 3rd flare up in 2 years, I too have B12 deficiency and folate deficiency, I take gabapentin but have arthritis and polyarthralgia they think it is all linked but glad you have some relief now
What else is there to do ? The drugs and the surgeries are all addressing the effect of the disease. What about the root cause ? I think no one even knows. I've googled TN endlessly. There is still no definate root cause. I can't afford the surgical procedure.. the drugs are too expensive. The drug that i was taking had one of it's side-effects.. ( suicidal tendencies ) .. i was like .. WTF. Are you trying to cure me or kill me ? When i stopped the drug cold turkey. I had cold sweats for a month. Something that does that .. can't be good for your body. If the drug helps with the pain fine. But drastic changes to your lifestyle have to support your body to heal. I had to do accupunture for temporal relief while waiting for the effects of the change in lifestyle to kick in. It's not easy.. 1 month into the gluten free, milk free, egg free, caffine free diet.and early bed times ..i started thinking.. it's not the diet.. it's not the diet. It's not working. I'm still in f@#$@# pain !! It's not easy to cut off the 6 possible inflamatory food groups from our diet. Dairy, gluten , soy , corn, peanuts and egg. There's nothing much else to eat !! I'm torturing myself for naught. But i kept at it.....
Bad or wrong dietary habits and lifestyles can cause diabetes.. high blood pressure.. cancer.. and etc etc etc... why not add TN into the list. Is it remotely possible ? Hey gluten triggers sinus allergies in some people. What does a plate of pasta have to do with sinuses..? then again.. we don't really know our body do we ?
hi!I've always red that no1 knows the cause really,it's all trial & error wiv each different case I think em x
Where I live the surgery is free so at least i can have it if i choose to. Still working through the drug option though. I am on Tegretol 800mg to which i have just had added Lyrica 250mg. Apparently the Lyrica does not work with most people till you get to at least 300mg so i am being moved up toward that slowly and waiting to see if there are side effects. I notice chocolate makes mine worse (dont understand that) and i use Sensodyne which is a toothpaste to lessen sensitivity of your teeth and gums as i notice i get shocks when my mouth is dry and my gums get touched even by the inside of my mouth. The cold air on my face can start me up also but that wont be a problems for a few more months when winter arrives. Talking too much or getting tense or stressed is another thing. I take L-Lysine because if i get a cold sore it makes things more painful and also Vitamin B complex. this is keeping things bearable for now but winter is coming and that will bring it on full bore and i am terrified.
Once during a bad episode I took paracetomol for 2 weeks every 4 hours to reduce inflamation (just to give it ago)....and it worked! Or perhaps was coincidental?? It returned a year later and hasn't yet (another 2 years) gone away again! I think you are right to think it could be diet. My sister in laws father always said his was due to eating cheese!
I still haven't determined mine yet. I'm too afraid that the pain might return that I have not re-introduced dairy, gluten, nuts, eggs back into my diet yet to find out exactly what's causing it. I've haven't had a burger / pizza in ages..can't remember the last time i had them. Well it's a small price to pay to be pain free. I've would have made a deal with the devil during those episodes for the pain to stop !! So change in diet is a small matter. On the plus side.. being gluten free caused me to lose a few pounds. I've never felt better.. more energy !
Please tell us about your new diet and how it helped you. What should be in my shopping basket? Also what about the depression,?What were the symptoms?Thank you for your post. Best wishes
Sorry.. I'm hardly qualified to advice on a diet plan. But I do think it depends on where you're from. I'm chinese, so avoiding dairy, gluten, nuts, egss from my diet is slightly easier. for breakfast..I lazily pop in a couple of spirulina tablets.. and later in the morning. I make a cup of honey with a few spoonfulls of honey. That would keep the hunger away. Lunch and dinner is mostly rice, chicken, fish.. and stir fried veggies. So i can manage to keep the possible inflammatory foods away. But i do crave for cakes.. biscuits.. noodles...bread.. deep fried..spicy stuff .my coffe latte. My fear of the pain keeps the craving at bay. Just take a minute..i'm sure you can come to a diet that's free of those inflamatory food groups.
I started with 150mg of lyrica.. then upped it to 300mg. I was lethargic most of the times..there was still the constant pain. After a while you feel like .. "what's the point of living life with constant pain ? " I wasn't suicidal but life was getting pointless. You begin to loose interest in everything. I'm not that kind of a person..I couldn't imagine someone who's in that emotional state would ever be able to get any better. I stopped lyrica immediately after 2 months.
I can't promise that avoiding those foods is the cure for everyone... but isn't it worth a try ? Google these food groups..dairy.. gluten.. nuts.. soy... eggs . They can cause inflamattory reactions. I'm 46 now.. I could eat anything and everything when i was younger.. but maybe my body can't process these foods anymore like i use to. People age. People change. Stick with the diet and be patient..even if you're still in pain after that.. at least you'll have a healthier body. Possible TN causes are degeneration of the protective mylin that cover the nerve.. or rubbing of blood vessels against the nerve. But have you ever wondered why does it go away for a few months and come back again ? Unless you've somehow pushed the blood vessels away.. why does the pain go off ? Why does it come back again after surgery for some people..? Perhaps something in us have to change.
sorry.. it's honey with a few spoonfull of chia seeds..
you're more than likely in remission, so don't put all your eggs in one basket, there is no 'cure' for this unless you have surgery and even then, that doesn't work for some.
Yes it could very well be. Have anyone found out what causes the remission ? Everyone with TN wants a remission... Did my nerves suddenly regenerated itself ? or somehow a blood vessel relocated itself ? This is my first remission after more than a year of hell for me. I'll keep with the diet and the boost myself with b6,b12.vit C ..hopefully i'll report back still pain free a year from now. Unless a doctor can guarantee me a cure.. I'm not gonna let him cut me up.
So Karen, you. What dose gabapentin are you up to?Maybe. It will happen for me again. 2 and half years ago I got stage 1 up on the eyebrow.After. 6 months I broke my hip and TN disappeared for 2years only to come back last Dec 50times worse.
Hi I was up to 400mg 4 times a day, 400mg ibuprofen 3times a day and 1000mg paracetamol 4 times a day, I am glad to that IVE stopped ganapentin after suffering for 6 weeks but reduced it gradually and I only get odd twinges now and then, but I am not permanently in pain like some, mine does flare up by God when it does but it does settle down, but bearing in mind ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory pain killer so it will reduce and easy anything inflamed, babapentin for nerve pain, and paracetamol for pain, however it could all flare up next week,
I'm not sure I have TN but my dentist wants me to check with my primary care physician. I have been having pain in my mouth for about 6 months now. Only when chewing. My dentist sent me to an oral surgeon & he said I had a cracked tooth under my cap. Tooth was extracted but now I have pain in other teeth. Only when chewing on food.
I am beside myself with worry. The research I found online is scary. Please can anyone tell me if this is TN.
Is it contagious?
My symptoms are matching most of the symptoms from other forum member . I've
Seen 9 doctors so far and the closest to give me n answer was my chiropractor. I have a continuous pain in my right jaw like some one is trying to pul my teeh out. I am scheduled to see a neurologist but i want to try the vitamins and fish oil and diet option. How much vitamins B6 and 12 and fish oil did you take? Did anyone tried acupuncture.?
Thank you
Hi the reason why you felt better in my opinion is not diet but use of ascorbic acid plus fish oil. Read here: https://www.ecronicon.com/ecne/pdf/ECNE-03-000078.pdf
Hi, thanks for info, I still have flare ups again. Intense torture for one or 2 days , with the pain subsiding gradually over the next few weeks. I'm still trying to figure out the triggers for the flareups. Due to lack of discipline, sleeping late, lack of water , stopping the fish oil supplementation, work stress. During that time, my upper gums feels swollen and inflamed. I could actually feel dimples when i feel the gums with my tongue. Went back to sleeping very early, lots of water , and double the fish oil supplementation, vit C. etc etc. Now the pain is gone again. I do not respond to the drugs, so for the initial flare ups, there's nothing that can help me. In a sense i think it's good, my body is trying to heal or get in sync again without the added burden of trying to dispel drugs cursing thru our bodies. There's nothing natural about TN drugs. Be well.
Do you have any flare ups recently?
I am Chinese too and I want to be pain free. Can you share your diet plan?
