I have to have the blood thinning injections for 28 days. I have now had 14... My belly looks very colourful.
My question is, does anyone else close their eyes when giving themselves the injection?

LOL, never had to close my eyes but did have a colourful belly. I found it best to try to relax then push needle in quickly and smoothly.
I have to say it rarely stings, just a couple of times now I close my eyes without realising it. I laugh at myself :-)
Hi...I just, push a little of the drug out of the needle, then, pinch the skin on my belly, and push it in at 90Degrees, then push in the drug evenly, dont rub it as that causes the brusing. NOt a mark on me and I have had about 7 now...Ian.
I had bruising from the first one. It doesn't hurt though, just looks awful. I'm assuming it's because I'm far from slim, shall we say :-D even having lost 6 stone.
Hi there , I was horrified when I was first told I'd have to do it mysef but after having a go myself before leaving hospital and realsied it did,.nt even hurt managed fine , did'nt close my eyes though . I was quite bruised and it only stung for a few seconds after the needle came out . Was glad to do the last one all the same . All the best to you in your recovery , Ruth , Wales
I was not told about these injections until I was in the hospital - like a best kept secret !!1 6 weeks of Fragmin ... I too was horrified by the though of having to inject my self but I managed - nobody told me to NOT rub until there was almost no flesh colored spot left on this ample belly ... but no, I always kept my eyes open - needed to know that it went straight in ... I was so happy when I was done !!!!!
They are surprisingly easy, to be fair, even going in the bruised bits. At least I only have four weeks worth 😊
Oh2behappy, I was told to not inject on the bruises !!! anyone had the same advice?
I have no room between bruises.
That is something that does concern me. I read the advise given to others on here. The staff were wonderful at the hospital yet so run off their feet hardly any advise was given in the minutes they were in the bay...
I am 3 weeks post op today so nearly finished these my belly looks like a rainbow lol and still hate doing them and like you close my eyes sometimes
I'm at Day 8 post-op and I have to say this remains my least favourite part of the day - worse than that first attempt to get out of bed in the morning, in my book. But then I am a wimp. I certainly do not close my eyes - I'm worried it will slip at the last minute and end up in my belly-button, which would just be the pits as far I am concerned! The nurse who broke the news to me that this was all up to me for the next 27 days wasn't aware of the stinging at the end of the jab - she is now! She did advise that I alternated sides, though, so I guess that goes against the stab the bruise suggestion. May your remaining days pass quickly. Best regards. Cx
I'm so glad it's not just me ![]()
Oh I do feel so sorry for you all that are having to inject. When I had my first knee replacement in 2008 I had to do the injections and absolutely hated it!! When I had my second knee replacement in 2010 I was given tablets to take instead of having to do injections. Now having had my hip replacement I have been given Rivaroxaban 10mg tablets for 35 days. These do the same job as the injections and are far less painful!!! I told a friend of mine about these tablets when she had to go into hospital and was made to do injections. She mentioned it to the doctors and they gave her a blank look. It seems very unfair that these are available and yet patients are still subjected to having to do painful injections on themselves! BTW yes, I did close my eyes when I had to inject myself. Horrible!
Thank you. I notice some sting and some don't!
Tuesday seemed to be the day getting in and out of bed got easier. Steps too. That was day 13 for me. Still pain, but bearable. You're not a wimp. I don't anything could have prepared us for this...
A friend of mine had tablets, but was able to have the replacement done privately as they're with BUPA. He suggested to another friend that he asked for tablets, but he too had the blank look.
Mine was done by the NHS so the tablets shouldn't just be for private patients. It seems that some hospitals have no knowledge of the alterntive to injections.
I kept my eyes open today
But it did sting...
just been for a walk in gentle drizzle.
I shut my eyes while someone else gives me the injections! Couldn't do them myself. I'm much too clumsy and anyway what about not bending over ? Yes,I do have some marks on my tummy but these seem to be mostly from injections given in hospital not the ones my husband did afterwards.
I think anyone doing their own injections is marvellous - unless you were a nurse/surgeon/drug addict/acupuncturist and used to needles.
Hi yes I was exactly the same! I had the district nurse in as well as I am a cowed at injecting myself! Hope all goes well! Keep positive! Regards Amanda
