As you get older, it is normal that your cycle and its symptoms change. I was always a relatively heavy bleeder so since I have been in peri mine is about the same. But yes it is very common to have normal periods and then once you''re in peri for it to become heavier with the bleeding. Sometimes you bleed longer days than your normal cycle and heavier. Sometimes shorter days and a lighter cycle. But to be sure go see your GYN. Hope this helps.
