Tomorrow!

Hi Everyone, well all too quickly the night before the op has arrived !!! After saying for long enough now that it can't come quickly enough, now I'm not so sure !! I'm halfway between finishing packing my bag to go in at 7.30am tomorrow and running away !! All of a sudden maybe I'm not quite as brave as I thought I was !! I'm sure it's just last minute nerves and all will go fine tomorrow. I'm going into the BGH in Galashiels, and don't think they have wi-fi available so hopefully I will be able to catch up with you all in afew days when I get out. Love Maggie xxxxx

Good luck Maggie, don't panic, keep calm and carry on!

Once it's all over I wish you a really good recovery.

I'm not nearly as brave as you, I've been putting if off for 5 years now!

Hi Maggie,

I know exactly how you are feeling, but honestly you will be fine.  I am now 8 weeks post op, in no pain and enjoying doing all the things I could not do pre surgery, walking etc.  I am still on restrictions and do find that frustrating.  I know you will be so happy not to have the terrible pain.  For me the surgery was nothing short of a miracle and I hope very much that you have a similar outcome.  I will be thinking of you tomorrow.  Try to get a got nights sleep.

I look forward to hearing from you once you get home.

Lorraine from Vancouver.

Good luck Maggie, I am sure all will go well and you will be back on here telling us there was nothing to worry about and that you are feeling great after the operation.

Good luck.

Good luck Maggie! I will be thinking about you! I'm sure everything will go perfectly and this time tomorrow you will be on the path to recovery. I'm only at the planning stage of seeing my GP on Friday to ask for the referral with a view to the first knee being done early next year. I will be following all of  your posts with great interest.

Kind regards,

Gill XX

Good luck! Its all good 😀

Good Morning Maggiemac, You will do just fine just think how much better you will feel after !! Hang in there I wish you great recovery let us know how you are doing

Best of Luck Jackie

I know exactly how you feel. I was the same. Now just over 5 weeks post op and starting to feel great again. All the best. If you feel anxious when you get to hosp ask if you can have a small sedative just to take the edge off it. They gave me some diazepam as I had to wait nearly 4 hours and was shaking with nerves, it really helped. Will be thinking of you.

Good luck, Maggie!  I've never met anyone who relishes the thought of hospital and an operation!

It may not work for you but my uncle of 91 was my inspiration.  Maybe you have a family member with similar experiences.  This uncle had faced bowel cancer then secondaries on the lung and then cancer of the jaw and prostate cancer. He always insisted on having any treatment available and spent many weeks having surgeries, chemotherapy and radiotherapy over an 8 year period.  He was always so positive about everything.  The night before my op I thought of all that he had been through and here was I just having a hip replacement which wasn't terminal; indeed, had a very high success rate.  It really did put things into perspective for me.

Anyway, as I've said before, I'm now 8 weeks post op and now walking without crutches and only get a bit of muscle pain if I overdo things! I was very apprehensive about the whole procedure beforehand but am now a total convert and can't believe how much it has already improved my quality of life.

Whatever you do over the next few days, do make sure you take regular pain relief!  I refused the codeine (anything with "co" in makes me constipated)  but took as much paracetemol as they offered.  It did cross my mind - paracetemol? thought that was for headaches? but it turns out it is one of the best things for bone and muscle pain! Some people have a morphine drip. If you take the pain relief it does go some way towards helping you become more mobile quickly! Just need to grit your teeth and go for it!!

Look forward to hearing from you once you are on the road to recovery!! Good luck! Pat

Maggie, you are in good company here....if you have been reading this forum for awhile we all say almost word for word the same words to describe our fear, uncertainty of outcome, etc.

Soon you will be giving out sage advice to new readers!!!

All the best......Patricia

Good luck , Maggie. Sure you'll be absolutely fine. Let us know how it goes!

Perfectly natural to be anxious but there's no need. All will go well and you'll be limbo dancing again in a few weeks!! All the very best for tomorrow. Can't wait to hear how well you're doing. x

Hi Maggie

Its normal......no matter how much you are looking forward to it, when it comes to the time.....you are terrified and will be until the actual op....Or at least I was

Just remember that afterwards you dont get any medals fro bravery.......Keep on top of your pain, dont try to play catch up {is what I was told}.....you will need pain killers at first I'm sure.

Good Luck

Hi Maggie

Four weeks ago today I was feeling exactly as you are! Then I thought - I have a choice: I go through with it or continue to live with the relentless, grinding, debilitating pain = it's a no brainer.

So - four weeks on, I'm doing absolutely fine just like everyone here. We're all rooting for you and hoping you breeze through it all and are home in no time minus that pain and looking to the future. Chin up smile We'll all be thinking of you tomorrow. Love Judith xx (no wifi at BGH, but we'll here soon enough I'm sure)

hear!

Oh you'll do fine.  Only a week of hell and you'l start feeling better.

I myself am almost 3 weeks out of revision and walking my dog this morning a Mike and and a half.

I feel really good except for the swelling.  I will atrend my 30 yr reunion on Saturday.

Big Hugs and comforting peace to you!!💚💛💜.

Blessing for a great outcome!!

Hello Maggie,

Good luck tomorrow with your surgery. Just put your mind at ease, knowing you're going to feel a lot better after its all over with.

I'm scheduled for my second hip replacement on November 13th. So I guess that makes me a pro at it.

Looking forward to hearing how you did.
