Hello,
Hoping someone can help figure out what my issue is.
I’m a 33 Male, good health over all, athletic build. I exercise 5 times a week, eat a balanced diet.
About 3 months ago I started having pain in my tongue. It first starts of with a subtle pain which I can feel when swallowing or moving my tongue around when pronouncing certain words. I would say its about a 3 out of 10. The next day, it usually becomes worse. I notice immediately upon waking up. After about 48 hours, it becomes a 8 out of 10 to the point where I can barely swallow. I have to take ibuprofen to reduce the pain. This goes on for about 3-5 days until it begins to subside. NO other symptoms at all. Perhaps I feel a little “down” or uneasy however, I assume this is just because I am depressed from the constant pain throughout the day.
The tongue appears normal, there is no obvious signs of distress. For example, no white spots, curvy edges, nothing. It does not even appear swollen although I have to assume it is indeed slightly swollen as it is tender to the touch. If i grab my throat, the pain is felt. My lymph nodes are not in pain however.
The obvious choice is an allergy, right? I asked my Doctor and he simply prescribed allergy medication. By the time I took the medicine the pain had already subsided. The next occurrence I took benadryl which only caused me to fall asleep and did nothing for the pain or swelling.
The only item I have introduced into my diet was a new protein powder (egg white protein). I have not used it for 3 weeks and have not had another occurrence until today. Therefore it seems this was not the culprit. I have started logging other things in hopes to find the source of my issues but so far nothing conclusive.
Any ideas?
