Has anyones child been referred to ENT specialist to have their tonsils removed? Did that improve infections, or symptoms related to HSP?
A couple years ago I also heard that people were getting this done and it helped. However, after more research I saw that people still had it after the surgeries. One thing to understand is that IF people have sore throats and it leads to the immune system kicking in, this starts another episode. So really anything that can be done to reduce the body feeling like it needs to start an immune system response will help reduce HSP symptoms. Because, this disease seems to be an incorrectly functioning immune system. Each time I got a sore throat, I pretty much knew I would get my HSP rash, etc again, but also anything like too much sun exposure, alhohol, exercise, colds, stress or anything that triggers the immune system or taxes the body would start another episode.
The bottom line is that this procedure is not a cure, it's just one less thing to act as a trigger IF it is the tonsils that are getting infected. However, once the HPS goes away, which it does in most kids, it may still be beneficial to have their tonsils because the tonsils house white blood cells. My vote is to be more careful taking care of them and having them take care of themselves first so their body will have enough time to recover on it's own. I'm a lucky one that figured out many things and have not had an episode for a few years now due to the things I now avoid and perhaps my body has even had long enough to fully recover and I won't get it again (fingers crossed).
Thank you for sharing your experience. It has been a nightmare for us, however we are currently looking at all of our options and praying that we are guided to what is right for her.
