I just got my test results back:

I'm confused because my doctor just increased my Levothyroxine? I'll be on 250 instead of 200. I thought my test result showed I'm hyper now. Can someone please explain to me my results. Thank you!

Hi serpthia63425, your hormone levels show that you are hyperthyroid, that is your free thyroxine level is raised and your thyroid stimulating hormone is suppressed.
The full replacement dose of thyroxine is approx. 1.7 mcg/kg/day or 120 mcg/day for a 70 kg adult. 250 mcg is an unusually high dose.
Do you have any symptoms? Do you have thyroxine resistance or a low thyroxine absorption rate?

I do have malabsorption issues. I have to take a high dose of folic acid, calcium, but I don't know if that's why I've ended up on so much thyroid medicine. I don't understand why my doctor at this point would be giving me more Levothyroxine when I'm already hyper. Recently I've developed high blood pressure after having low pressure all my life. Also, I've been feeling lousy. I think I need a second opinion before I start a 250 mcg dose. I think my doctor is misinterpreting my results. Unless I don't understand something; can more thyroid medicine counter hyperthyroidism?
I would not take a higher dose. Yes, you are hyper. Sometimes a doctor may suggest to take a higher dose and than lower it slowly if you don't feel good but only if you are hypo. I would continue to take the 200 and see after 4 weeks if you are still hyper and than lower to 175 and so on.. talk to your doc again and ask why he would give you more. Makes no sense to me.

Finally, the doctor’s office replied to my calls. It was a mistake. They lowered my dose to 150 mcg. I’m glad I pestered them and didn’t just take the extra medication.
