Decided to take a two week break from my usual 20 mg dosage of flu when I decided to go on vacation. I thought drinking and my meds wouldn't mix, so I eliminated the meds while on vacation. Terrible decision on my part. Just started back on them this week and feeling beyond exhausted and lightheaded. Prior to this 2 week break, I've been on flu for 4 months. Is this a side effect of me going on a break and getting back on or would that little of a break not have made a difference?
Stopping an ssri shouldn't be done all of a sudden. Slow tapering over time or your asking for withdrawals that are brutal. 3-5 % every 2-4 weeks. Some get by otherwise but you'll soon know if you don't follow a slow taper process.
You can't take a break from these meds then hop back to them - you have to withdraw over many months because if you stop abruptly you'll become very ill - often worse than the initial suffering. Also the meds wouldn't be out of your system during that short break, so pointless to put yourself through that xxx.
I took meds for 16 years and didn't abstain from alcohol (though everyone is different). I'd say no to the first few months whilst they're settling though. Long as you don't go absolutely wild I know most people are fine.
