Tooth infection pain

Good evening. I am sitting up late at night staring an all nighter in the face because of a tooth infection from a root canal I had years ago. I can't sleep, eat, or hardly touch my face anywhere near the infection. My dentists gave me anti biotics and told me to take Advil 200mg. I took 4 pills 2 hours ago and it feels like I had nothing at all. Just excruciating pain and I was hoping someone had some sort of treatment they used to help even semi relieve this so I can at least sleep. I want to try aspirin but I think it's too soon

It won't hurt for you to take aspirin now. Sometimes just taking a bit of aspirin and sit it on your bad tooth will help. I hate having a toothache. They make you feel like your whole jaw is pulsating. It has been so long now since I had one that I can't even remember what to do. Good luck in getting through the night! I have more nights that I can't sleep than the other way around. Have you tried an ice bag?

Yes I've tried everything hot and cold. But the pressure to just hold the ice there kills me. It's at the point where I'm afraid if I touch it too hard I'll pass out. I just took two more Advil but I was afraid to take 4 since I just took 4 about 3.5 hours ago. I'm out of options and I'm trying not to go to the ER since it's clearly too late for a dentist

I wonder if there's anything homeopathic that could help, just to tide you over so you can sleep tonight? Maybe gargle with salt water, hot if you can take it?  Many years ago at work, someone suggested topical antibiotic cream (like you'd use on a minor cut), put on my jaw where my tooth was aching & I was skeptical but tried and it worked for me. Not sure how something that mild could work through skin and bone...?

Another suggestion I have is to try something from an all-night pharmacy like orajel or a numbing/pain agent for mouth pain.

HUGS, Jesse! This sounds awful! Hope you have full relief soon!

I swill with Myrrh 3 times a day and when I occassionally get a tooth infection it gets rid of it without the need for antibiotics.

What does the x-ray show? If it is infected get an Rx for Ciproflexen.

I noticed this happened some time ago but for future knowledge...

Use clove oil. Put some on a Qtip and apply directly where pain is persistent.

another cause for tooth pain; sinus infection!

Prop yourself up when you sleep the pressure from jaw will minimize.
