Hi hippies,
Happy weekend to you all and going well for you.
I would be grateful for any advice please about the tightness I have at the front top of my thigh on the same side as my operated hip. I am just over 3 weeks post op and hobbling around on one crutch when going on my walk o more like waddle and then overtaken by Mavis aged 95 one of my neighbours...won hear the last of that. I have nt been given any physio from my hospital but jus get on with it yourself. Can anyone advice me please on th best exercises etc to ease the muscle tightness ?.
Manythanks.
I started going to a nice warm pool and just walk up and down, walk backwards and side ways leading with operated leg. But it was 7 weeks before I started
Hi kevin do yourself a kindness & please book yourself in to local physio this will help longterm too ☺
pm me your email and i will send you what my physio gave me and a recommended link......
Hi Kevin. You really should have been referred to physio, there are certain exercises that you need to do to aid your recovery. Did they give you the basic exercises before you left hospital?
Hello Kevin, I am like you. Just over 3 weeks post op I have mine done on march 2nd. But please please get up and walk around you house as much as you can It can take months for the swelling to go down.I now have awful problems with my right knee.! So might be bionic by christmas !! I was ment to have a spinal block, but in the end they had to give me a GA. As my anxiety was so so bad. It seems that many medical people dont get the picture of anxiety. as for physio mine has left it up to me . But will come and help when I am ready to progress to 1 stick. But please dont rush. I am having to have carers in to cook and evening meal, as hubby is disabled as well. And they come also in the mornings to get us up help with drinks & breakfast. Dont sit down for long periods as you will become very tight. I still am. So have to now close and take it slowly and walk around the house, as its wet outside.please dont RUSH regards amanda
Good luck mate -

Hi Aman and Thankyou. Sorry to hear your in same situ as me in regard to physio guidance but also your knee probs and other issues. Yes, I will pace myself and am getting up and around as much as poss. We will ge there though won't we. Very best wishes to you and your husband.
Hi Mic, cheers for that. Will keep on doing the mileage and now baby lotion. Others have made some suggestions so onwards. How you getting on ?.
If you want to have a look at my hospital website it's nlg.nhs.uk. Search for hip exercises & there's info on more exercises that you can do. They're working for me.
I am 9 weeks post op and have a tightness across op thigh at times . Saw physio for first time since hospital on Thursday , he told me it's normal because my muscles are weak . I need yo excercisevto strentghen them as I also have a limp niw I no longer use crutches .
1.stand up with feet together and move op leg out sideways as gpfar as you can . Hold onto something .
2.lift bad side knee up till parallel with hip , no higher.
put bad leg out behind you and back .
3. Pretend to sit on a chair.
4. While in bed move bad leg out to side and back ( I couldn't do that at first )
5. Lay on good side with good leg bent a little and keeping bad leg straight lift it up as far as you can . ( really struggle with this one still )
some of the exercises
hope it makes sense .
good luck
Mary
Hello Kevin, Are you in UK..if so where? 3 weeks still early BUT were you not seen by physio at hosoital after op and before discharge? They shld have gven yu exercises and seen you do them. A Hands On physio I feel is nec. but they wil nto do anything till 6 weeks post op check. NHS physio in general will not do deep tissue massage and that is nec as after op your muscles are "traumatised" and the DTM will relieve the knots etc. so sorry it will probably need to be private. They will also give you some extra exercises to do. There are also lots of exercises on internet... but do not push too far.. a little pain but not beyond a barrier and walking is excellent. Try NOT to waddle, difficult at first as your body wants to compensate, so altho you do not think you need 2 crutches you may still.... and then down to one. Also at 6 week check ask if they are sure yur legs are same length! I didn't but I am sure mine are.. but as you will see from this site many people's are not.
Hi Mary, Manythanks for your info. Will start them later today, after n
nw other brew up
Hi Gillee, little house in Gravesend, Kent. Thankyou for your reply but no physio or follow up from my hospital other than couple exercises before released after my op. I will try again with th hospital otherwise will look at a local physio. Where are you from ?
Best wishes to you.
Hi Kevin, Mary has given you good advice regarding the exercises, these are also in the booklet that the hospital gave me. I used to teach Keep Fit and these exercises do work for healthy legs and hips too. One of my "girls" had to have a hip op some years ago now and the Nurse asked her if she did keep fit as she had good strong thigh muscles, so these exercises do work, but go gently at first or you will ache afterwards and make it even worse! Good luck.
Thank you Barbara, will take you advice. Best wishes to you
