Hi there
I had a THR at start of Sept 2017 and also needed bone graft. I expected to be further ahead in my recovery by now, I am walking without any support although still feel pain in my hip and walk with limp most of the time. Can anyone who has experienced a long recovery time for this op please share their experience and tell me if this will improve.
Hi Craig I also had THR in August 2017 just started feeling stronger had itb syndrome and very weak thigh muscle and glutes just not working getting stronger do my exercises every day which is helping still get pain but taking much less pain relief and more manageable we all progress at different rates hope this helps.
Hiya I'm about 7 weeks after THR and yeah I'm getting a bit fed up!! everything seems to hurt...both thighs....like I've bin in the gym for 10 hours...like burning....felt a lot better yesterday so you think your getting there and then today backache...and the site of the op inside feels really sore....nice to know someone else is struggling....
Hi Linda it does get better I was the same in constant pain all different pain meds couldn't sleep or walk to good was really fed up feeling of regrets because of the pain but 4 months on feeling lots better doing much more feeling happier it does take time stay strong x
I'm only 47 and have a 9 year old daughter and was active getting there
Hi
I had revision surgery in 2017. Old hip removed in March, New hip put in in July. So I'm 5 months on from there. I know it's not the same surgery as you had but I also feel my progress is slower than I had hoped. I can walk without a stick but I do tend to limp a bit, especially walking uphill. I am working on strengthening my leg and it is slowly getting better. We all heal at different rates and I suppose we may not all regain the level of activity we had before the problems began.
It may be better to use a stick when you walk if that stops you limping. Limping is a sort of learned process and it is best not to get into the habit. I use a stick ifI'm walking any distance outside or Nordic walking poles. That way I can walk without a limp and go a lot further.
Keep working at it and it should continue to improve.
Mike
I'm still using a stick occasional physio advise as it helps with my limp
I still have a limp when I get up (10 weeks post op) but it goes away after a few steps but the first couple of steps are very painful
Thanks Kathryn sorry I have only just read this but it helps. Been 6 months since op now I am making recovery but it is so slow I thought I'd at least be able to jog lightly by now but not yet. I feel so much better when I stretch for a short period
Thank you Linda I am getting there very slowly just thought this recovery would be much quicker than this. 6 months post op now but the way this has been going I think it could take another 6 months for full recovery
