Total Hip replacement

Hi Hippies,

Had a total left hip replacement in cemented twelve weeks ago. I was doing great . Was back to walking dogs and everything I had done previously. Gardening etc. Surgeon was happy and didn't want to see me for another year.

We were out walking dogs last week. They were off lead and my partner was messing around with them. I had my back to them. Two of the dogs Apr and backwards and crashed full pelt into the back of my leg. It really hurt but I seemed to walk it off.

Since then however I can not lift my leg whilst sitting or being my knee up in front of me whilst standing. Getting in and out of car is a total nightmare because it is so painful. And turning over at night likewise.

My leg seems numb when I wake in the morning and I am limping.

Was checked out at doctors and they are referring me back to the surgeon but they seemed happy my hip was still in place. They said I might have dislodged the shaft down my leg which will still be forming new bone.

Has anybody any ideas or suffered with similar?. I am so fed up.

I fell 7 months post op. Thought everything was ok. Two months on saw surgeon. X ray no problem with hip or stem. Said it was muscular and that it get better as muscles from op would take two years to heal.  It did settle down after a few months. I have not had the same effect in regards to the leg being heavy though. Good luck.

Thank you for answering . I hope you are well now?. X

Dear Lesley

What very bad luck. I would want x rays done ASAP but I tend to be cautious but you is suffered a considerable blow to your leg and that really should be thoroughly checked out IMO though of course it could be your muscles complaining.

Fingers crossed for you.

Cheers Richard

So sorry to hear about your accident Lesley5362. I have suspect d loosening of implant which when it catches me out, is really quite painful so sympathise with you. Just be very careful what you do so that you give the implant a chance to build me bone to support it. Take car now.
