Hey, I had total right knee replacement. They put the same bandage on the knee that they used on my hair. They went to change it this morning and I have several blisters. Is this common? I've asked and they said yes but I was wondering if anybody on this forum has ever experienced it. Thanks!! ❤️❤️
Hi
yes, i had the same, aparenty some people are algic to t. Wish you god recovery. I am six week after TKR, getting there.
Regards - Grace
Hi sorry to hear you having problems. I never had blisters. Its the fact they used the same bandage that gets me....thats not good practice!!!!
Hope you soon feel better xx
Hi, I 've had both knees replaced at different times, and both times I had several blisters, one was huge. I was told they were serous fluid blisters and normally part of the healing process. They all scabbed over in around a week, and eventually disappeared.
I wouldn't worry too much.
An elderly lady in my ward had several blisters. She was diabetic and one of the nurses said they were common in diabetics. I did not experience blisters. May you heal quickly! X
I had blisters from the tape on my first tkr and they took longer to heal then the tkr incesion. They hurt but will heal.
Thank you everyone for the replies!! What I meant to say was they used the same type of bandage when I had my hip replaced! Not the same one....gotta love these meds!!
Im 4 wk into my trp n ive blisters from the stiky bit of the plaster and was told it was an allergic reaction.xx
When you say total knee replacement did they have to do any bone graft. I went to see the surgeons in Morehead and they said I had the worst news I've ever seen in 17 years they recommended I go to Duke which I am going and they said they'd probably have to do bone graft has anybody had any of that done
Hi liz
How did it go the knee replacement? I am from hip forum rem l spoke to you l have had both hips replaced now l have to get noth knees done my 1st is 16th aug.
What do you mean its the same bandages they used on your hair?? Why would they put bandages in your hair.
How does it feel compaired to the hip is it much more painful?
Laura x
Oh right you mean hips not hair ha ha
X
Same bandage they used on my hip....between the meds and auto correct! Swollen and sore. Low iron but I'm getting out today. Walking on it. Just gonna take some trime!! ❤️❤️
Lizard, thank you for the clarification...and the laugh. I imagined some tape that had been in your hair (still trying to understand why it would have been there), being taken off your hair and put on your knee. And I'm not even on meds, so there's no excuse for trying to imagine that. Sounds like the blisters aren't so unusual. I'm trying to remember if I had them or not (it was nearly 23 months ago). It does sound like a slight allergic reaction and it's possible that something was a bit different in your body's chemistry this time around then last time. Can you use something different to prevent more?

Hope you feel better soon liz am not looking forward to mine at all. Xxx
Lors, I understand the aprehension. But as one who is 22 months post op, I'm so glad I did it. I'm enjoying life again and not dreading anything that requires walking or standing in line. It's a bear initially, but just keep looking towards the goal - walking without pain or limping. Don't let the fear or pain hold you back.
Your comment here is so true! I am at 18 weeks tomorrow after bilats on Mar 21. I'm in Asia travelling as before, backpacker cheap. My new knees have not let me down! I did 80 steps up and down with 7kg of luggage. I walked 5 kms and I feel amazing. I am paying a little for the effort of 2 travel days, 8 hrs in aircraft and 4 hrs in a train BUT it would have been impossible prior to my tkr's. The recovery is so slow but I feel like I was right to get my new knees! Hugs from Penang.
I'm headed back to India in a month and really hoping to see Penang in about 7 months! I'm glad you are taking advantage of the new knees. We really should start a bilateral club.
Count me in! Let's call it "double or nothing TKR's". I used to live in Himachal Pradesh. Then Gokarna in the winter. Spent a month in Karnataka then Kerala last December. I have loved it, disliked it and now just like India now! I am no longer addicted!
Penang is sooo easy to live in. Next year I will rent for 6 months and skip over to Koh Samui for a change. Life is great if we never, ever give up! X
Week one! Pain pills, elevation, ice, sleep, repeat. Swelling has gone down a lot!
Im in wk 4 from my tkr and on crutches .how long b4 i can walk without them and how long will my leg feel like a tonne weight.x
