I am considering a medical alert tattoo for my severe codiene allergy. At age two (in 1964), I suffered TEN & was in a coma for 3 days after accidental ingestion of 1 ounce of Robitussin AC. Should TEN be included in medical alert info?
Most definitely. This could be life threatening. You must state that it is codeine that causes this reaction. Make sure the tattoo is on a very visible place like a wrist.
Thanks so much for replying back to me. I am not sure how I should make it read. I want it to be correct, seeing how permanent this is. I will have the universal med alert symbol and I think centered below it:
CODIENE ALLERGY
(Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis)
Would that seem correct to you?
Sounds very good and responsible. How about the medalert symbol on the back of your hand [doesnt have to be big] to alert anyone who is trying to put in an emergency drip or similar, and the allergy info on the inside of your wrist. Make sure that CODEINE is spelt correctly and leave out the brackets on the second line. Do not have it artistic...just the bare info is all you need
The accepted form of Medalert which any medic would recognise is still the bracelet or necklace which could get lost of course. Also remember that any form of tattoo is still unacceptable to some employers, thats why I am saying keep it simple and to the point.
Well done for taking your health seriously.
